IS IT SAFE TO LIVE NEAR A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT? A. As someone who has worked inside nuclear power plants, I can say that the plant workers have the front-row seats in this industry. If the plants are safe for the workers—and I believe they are—they are safe for the neighbors. Any safety concern I would have relates to WILL MY HOUSE RETAIN RADIOACTIVITY AFTER A THERAPY DOSE? The First Four Days: 1. Most of the radioiodine in your body will come out through the urine and stool. A small portion of radioactivity will be found in your saliva and sweat. To decrease the spread of radioactivity: If possible, use a separate bathroom. Flush the toilet two times after each use. UV-C PENETRATION THROUGH ACRYLIC PLASTIC UV-C light is a very energetic form of light that is not visible to the human eye. Based on our evaluation, UV-C light which is used for germicidal processes will not penetrate standard acrylic plastic sheets, so they will not work for your proposed application. PREGNANT AND WORK WITH LASERS IN A MEDICAL SKIN CLINIC A. You should know that a laser is simply a powerful beam of visible light at one frequency (monochromatic light). A laser beam can harm your eyes (retina) or skin because it can heat the skin or retina to temperatures that are damaging. Therefore, anyone using a laser for therapeutic or other purposes should be trained on how to use itsafely.
WHY DON'T WE USE MRI INSTEAD OF CT FOR ABDOMINAL STUDIES? An MRI scan typically takes longer to complete than a CT scan. This can be a factor if the patient is in critical condition and clinical information from the scan is needed very quickly. It also means that there will be more breathing and other types of motion in the patient throughout the scan which may cause motion artifacts in the images. LEAD APRONS ON PATIENTS AREN'T NECESSARY The patient doesn't receive any exposure from this "external" scatter. As such, placing a lead apron on the patient wouldn't be necessary. Other portions of the patient's body do receive some scattered radiation; however, this scattered radiation is "internal" meaning it is from radiation bouncing around inside the patient's body, and ofcourse

WLM = 1 WL exposure for 170 hours. 1 WLM = 170 x 0.0208 = 3.54 mJ h m-3.
USING A PARTICULATE MASK TO FILTER RADON I have a two-story garage built into the side of a hill. The lower level of the garage has no windows, and it contains a workshop. In the workshop, I have measured the average radon level over a four-month period to be about 160 becquerels per cubic meter (Bq m-3).Since this room has only intermittent use, say about one to two hours a day for a couple of days each week, would a P100 mask PREGNANT AND WORK WITH LASERS IN A MEDICAL SKIN CLINIC A. Airport and Security Screening Systems LIVING AND WORKING NEAR AN X-RAY ROOM Is it safe for me to live or work next to or near an x-ray room? A. Yes, if the x-ray room is in a facility that complies with x-ray regulations. Typically, states or countries have rules in effect that regulate the use of x-ray equipment. All rooms containing fixed x-ray equipment must be evaluated for shielding to keep x-ray dose to peoplein
HOME CONTAMINATION AFTER RADIOIODINE THERAPY With respect to your question on how does the radioactivity ever go away, all of the radioiodine (no matter where it is or how often it gets moved around) continuously decays at a rate such that half of it goes away every eight days. So the general rule of thumb is that after three months, all of the radioactivity is gone. PROTECTING MYSELF AFTER MY CAT'S RADIOIODINE TREATMENT The three ways that we control exposures to external sources of radiation are time, distance, and shielding. Reduce the time near a source, increase the distance from the source, or use some sort of radiation absorbing shielding between you and the source of radiation and you will reduce your radiation dose. DOSE AND RISK FROM HIGH RESOLUTION CHEST CT (HRCT) The effective doses from HRCT scans can vary widely depending on the x-ray parameters used, slice thickness and gap between slices. In a British Journal of Radiology article, the DLP values for HRCT varied from 22–537 mGy cm. This would correspond to a range of effective doses between 0.308 mSv and 7.518 mSv. LUNG REPAIR AFTER RADON EXPOSURE No such effect has been reported in the studies of lung cancer risk from residential radon exposure. RADIATION EFFECTS ON METALS Gamma radiation has little permanent effect on either metal. The gamma energy results in ionization and excitation involving electrons in the metals, and very small amounts of internal heat are the common effect; the same is true for x rays. Neutrons are much more likely to produce more dramatic effects in both metals.
HOW IS TRANSPORT INDEX DETERMINED? Per 49CFR173.403, the transport index is defined as follows:"Transport index (TI) means the dimensionless number (rounded up to the next tenth) placed on the label of a package, to designate the degree of control to be exercised by the carrier during transportation. The transport index is determined by multiplying the maximum radiationlevel in
LIFE EXPECTANCY OF LEAD APRONS A. As long as lead aprons are well cared for (not folded, properly hung, inspected annually and cleaned as needed), they should last for many years. I've seen well-cared-for lead aprons that have lasted decades and I have seen ones not taken care of that have not lasted one year. It is also a pretty good assumption that quality lead apronswill
WEARING APPLE WATCH DURING PREGNANCY Q. Have any studies been done on wearing an Apple Watch during pregnancy and the potential impact on the baby such as birth defects, etc? A. To my knowledge, nobody has tested smartwatches for possible health effects from the radiofrequency (RF) signals that they emit. Doing such tests, even with animals, would be very expensive and timeconsuming.
