A graduate from the American High School in Bardizag, Haroutune immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts where he served in the US Navy during World War One. Consequently, the city was the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Moush (Daron). According to the Armenian Patriarchate, in 1913-1914, on the eve of the Armenian Genocide, the city was home to 7,435 Armenians (1,146 households) . Surely, the population was much more mobile than possibly imagined and a good number of men were away from their hometown for significant periods of time working in Adana and Istanbul, for example. 1 The Torosian family Bernard (Haroutyoun) Torosian was born in Everek-Fenese in 1858. Married Miriam B. Jerahian (date unknown). Born in Lebanon he earned his Ph.D. in History and Civilization at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. ODA | IDENTITY(IES) :: HOUSHAMADYAN Baptism certificate, belonged to Elmon Chaderjian, it is dated: December 1, 1891 and was issued in Sivas/Sepasdia. Elmon was the daughter of Aghayeg Chaderjian, she was baptized in the Cathedral (Holy Virgin) of Sivas by the priest Yeghishe. A graduate from the American High School in Bardizag, Haroutune immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts where he served in the US Navy during World War One. We will present, under this general heading, the district (sandjak) of Marash during the Ottoman era.The chief centre for the Armenians of the district was the town of Marash itself (today known as Kahramanmaraş), where the greatest number of the district’sArmenians lived.
