HISTORY AT HOME
Online Tour of the History Museum. The San Mateo County History Museum is located inside the Old County Courthouse in Redwood City. Discover some of the history and architecture of the building during a tour lead by Deputy Director Carmen Blair. Watch Video. SANCHEZ ADOBE HISTORICAL SITE Sanchez was a leader of Mexican California who led volunteers against United States forces at the Battle of Santa Clara. After California became a state, Sanchez served as a San Francisco County Supervisor. Francisco and his wife, Teodore, had 13 children. Sanchez died in 1862 after falling from a horse. SAN MATEO COUNTY HISTORY MUSEUM San Mateo County has built four courthouses on the block of land originally donated by Simon Mezes and the Arguello Family, owners of Rancho Las Pulgas. The top floor of the 1858 courthouse was destroyed in the 1868 earthquake. The remaining floor was used until a new courthouse was built in 1882. It was known as the “Lady JusticeMONTHLY PROGRAMS

During the lengthy time we are closed to the public because of the COVID-19 crisis, we have had practically zero income from our traditional earned revenue sources. DISCOUNTS | SAN MATEO COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION The North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association is one of the largest reciprocal programs in the world with over 880 member institutions! NARM members receive free admission at the History Museum. San Mateo County Historical Association members at the Family Membership Level and above are a part of NARM.LA PENINSULA
La Peninsula. In 1941, Dr. Frank Stanger started La Peninsula as a way to preserve the colorful stories of the county’s past. A scholarly journal, La Peninsula is produced twice a year and sent to all the members of the San Mateo County Historical Association.RANCHO DAY FIESTA
The Sanchez Adobe Docents invite visitors to experience life in the 1840s. This family day will focus on what life was like on a rancho inMexican California.
