As we all know, history has been on hold. But with a phased reopening of some of our attractions across Scotland, it’s time for the excitement to restart. PREHISTORIC ANIMAL CARVINGS DISCOVERED FOR THE FIRST TIME The first time that ancient deer carvings have been discovered in Scotland. The broad summit of Cairnpapple Hill was a significant site for ceremonies and burials for at least 4,000 years. Cairnpapple’s henge dates from about 3800 BC. Scottish Government’s policies on alteration or change in the historic environment are set out in Scottish Planning Policy (SPP). The Historic Environment Policy for IONA ABBEY: PRICES AND OPENING TIMES Family (1 adult, 2 children) £18.00. Family (2 adults, 2 children) £26.00. Family (2 adults, 3 children) £31.00. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 5 go free, but they must have a ticket booked for them. Concession price: this applies if you can show proof that you’re aged 65+ or unemployed. SKARA BRAE: PRICES AND OPENING TIMES Advance booking required. From April to October, a joint ticket gives entry to Skaill House.
