Built between 1811 and 1814, the battery remained in use throughout much of the nineteenth century. Due to Covid 19 we have all become much more familiar with our immediate locality. This can help us to see things in a new light by noticing what we may have overlooked before. ‘Know Your 5K’ is a new initiative from the Heritage Council and National Museum of Ireland which provides an opportunity to share discoveries about ourhidden heritage.
LOCAL AUTHORITY HERITAGE OFFICERS Local Authority Heritage Officers play a key role in promoting heritage awareness, developing policy and providing advice and information on local as well as national heritage issues. TRADITIONAL BUILDING SKILLS What this resource page aims to do is provide helpful information on how historic buildings (i.e. constructed before World War 2) can be repaired and maintained. KILKERRIN BATTERY, LABASHEEDA, COUNTY CLARE Kilkerrin Battery Fort, near the village of Labasheeda, is the best preserved of these, its stout walls have withstood the elements for over two centuries.
