ENGLISH SETTLEMENT
THE HISTORY OF THE NEWFOUNDLAND MI'KMAQSEE MORE ON HERITAGE.NF.CATHE REID LANDS
MI'KMAQ ORGANIZATIONS AND LAND CLAIMSSEE MORE ON HERITAGE.NF.CA THE 1914 SEALING DISASTER The most horrific of these occurred in 1914, when 251 of the country’s sealers died in two separate but simultaneous disasters involving the SS Newfoundland and SS Southern Cross. These tragedies were immediately seared into the public consciousness and ultimately prompted government officials to change the way they regulated theseal fishery.
ST. ANNE'S CHURCH, LITTLE FOGO ISLAND, NL St. Anne's Church is one of the few remaining structures of the Little Fogo Islands. The small, independent-minded community of approximately 200 people united to provide supplies and labour for the church's construction. The church's interior, from the windows, railings and wooden domed ceiling, down to the altar, pews and kneelers, wereTHE VEILED VIRGIN
The St. John's Veiled Virgin was described by The Newfoundlander (4 December 1856) as the second such work by Strazza on the subject of a veiled woman. During the mid-19th century, Italian nationalism was on the rise, and there was a resurgence in nationalism in the Italianarts and music.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Heritage Website is an ambitious public history project that aims to provide school students and the general public with a wide range of authoritative information on the province's history, culture, and geography. It is based at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Faculty, graduate students, and professional writers contribute articles, while undergraduate students provide support as research assistants. Since its launch in 1997, the Heritage Website has expanded from about a hundred pages to more than a thousand.
