No language is complete without swear words, toilet words, genitals and sex words. I've grouped these together in this video so that parents who are studying this course with their children can decide whether to show them or not. This doesn't mean that I think certain body parts are 'rude' or 'impolite'. The sign for ASPHYXIA | ART, BOOKS & INSPIRATION My new book, Future Girl, is out now! ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS Posts about ankylosing spondylitis written by Asphyxia. When I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), and told by doctors it is an auto-immune disease, a form of inflammatory arthritis, for which the cause is unknown, and treatment consists of ‘heavy drugs’, Iwas devastated.
FUTURE GIRL RESOURCES The recurring themes present throughout Future Girl include Deafness, Auslan, art journaling, resilience, peak oil and food growing. To assist with the exploration of these ideas in more depth, relevant information and useful links are included below.LEARN AUSLAN

ALL ABOUT DEAFNESS
I’m Deaf. But being Deaf is not the most remarkable thing about me. People who know me will tell you that far more interesting is my creative drive, the fact that for holiday reading I’ll read a business text book and write my own precis, or that I built my own house when I was 22 and it has a huge food garden, including animals that I raise and kill myself for meat. NATURAL TREATMENT FOR ANKYLOSING SPONDYLITIS AND When I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), and told by doctors it is an auto-immune disease, a form of inflammatory arthritis, for which the cause is unknown, and treatment consists of 'heavy drugs', I was devastated. Google searches didn't yield up more information, and it took me a long time to uncover effective, naturalLEARN AUSLAN
In Auslan, tense is not shown in the verb, the way it is often done in English. For example, in English 'go' is in present tense, and 'went' is the same word but in past tense. In Auslan, you would use the word 'go' for all tenses, and show the tense a different way. TenseSIGN LANGUAGE
Auslan is a language that needs to make sense, visually. In the last lesson, ‘egg’ is an example of a sign that is altered depending on context, in order to make sense, visually. LEARN AUSLAN LEVEL 2 Learn Auslan – Computers. With the advent of technology, signs have arisen to help us talk about computers, internet and social media. Some of these signs, such as Glide, Instagram and Skype, are newer, so there has been less standardisation across Australia.FREE AUSLAN COURSE

I paint quirky, sweet characters who’ll touch you and inspire you. I like to represent those of us who are different, to remind us that inclusion is for everyone. My work is available online in my shop.
I am the author of The Grimstones – an award winning junior fiction book series featuring my family of handmade gothic puppets. I’m teaching a free online course in Auslan – Australian Sign Language. Learn basic signs in bite-sized lessons of around ten signs each. My art journal is my best friend, my life coach and a visual extravaganza. I’ve developed a method of lazy journaling that still results in a stunning book. Learn online here.
The book I’m currently working on, Future Girl, will be the art journal of the main character, who is Deaf. To be notified when it’s released, please subscribe to my mailing list.
I’ve written many articles about living a sustainable life, living creatively, and more. You’ll find them all via my guide to my blog.
I’m working hard on my book, Future Girl, which will be published by Allen & Unwin in July 2020. It’s 2026 and Piper’s mum wants her to be ‘normal’, to pass as hearing and get a good job. But when peak oil hits and Melbourne lurches into environmental catastrophe, Piper has more important things to worry about, such as how to get food. When she meets Marley, a CODA (child of Deaf adult), a door opens into a new world – where Deafness is something to celebrate rather than hide, where resilience is created through growing your own rather than food delivered on a truck. As she dives into learning Auslan, sign language that is exquisitely beautiful and expressive, Piper finds herself falling hard for Marley. But Marley, who has grown up in the Deaf community but is not Deaf, is struggling to find his own place in the hearing world. How can they be together? _Future Girl_ is the art journal of sixteen-year-old Piper, a visual extravaganza of text, paint, collage and drawings, woven into a deeply engaging coming of age story.
