NEW RUN COMMITTEE MEMBERS The Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run is pleased to announce the addition of 2 highly qualified people to the Hardrock Hundred Run Committee. Dr. David Hughes of Durango, CO has accepted the position of Hardrock Hundred Medical Advisor. Dr. Hughes, an emergency physician, brings a wealth of knowledge about the San Juan region to his position. He is the medical director of the San Juan (CO) county search and rescue as well as the Silverton (CO) ambulance service. Dr. Hughes has also served a previous stint as the interim Hardrock Medical Advisor. Between his special interest in wilderness medicine and being an ultra-runner himself, Dr Hughes has valued his experience in helping him better understand the medical needs of the runners as well as keeping him sane enough to not have any desire to compete in this racein the near future.
Brett Gosney has been appointed the Hardrock Course Director. Brett is a 6-time Hardrock finisher and brings both his expertise as a runner and a retired chief executive officer to the position. “I’m excited and honored to assume the role of Hardrock 100 course director. I look forward to building on the vision of those before me and will strive to provide an extraordinary experience for the runners of what has become one of the world’s premier mountain trail races.” said Gosney. ROLLOVER POLICY FOR HARDROCK 2021 Hardrock has now been cancelled 2 years in a row, and the last Hardrock lottery was nearly two years ago in December 2018. For our Never runners, we know running Hardrock may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Never entrant and wait lists will all be rolled over to 2021. Our Else and Veteran runners will have their entry fees fully refunded. For those categories, we will re-open lottery entries in November, and have a new draw in December. We know the number of Never applicants to Hardrock has quadrupled since our last formula update in 2013. For 2021, we will add 20 additional slots to the Never category, to be filled by runners on the current Never wait list. To minimize the overall impact, 5 fewer entrants will each be selected from the Veteran and Else pools this December lottery, creating a net max increase to the field of 10. To keep the overall number close to 145, the first 10 drops from any entrant list will not be filled. Starting with the 11th drop, spots will be filled as normal. We feel that this balances our goals of giving more runners the opportunity to run Hardrock, while maintaining the "Hardrock Family" atmosphere of long-time Hardrockers returning to challenge the courseagain.
Full Policy Statement HARDROCK 2020 CANCELLED Due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, all aspects of the 2020 Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run have been canceled. This includes the run, Camp Hardrock, and the Hardrock 100 Mountain RunningCamp.
Over the past two months, the Board of Directors and Run Committee completed a thorough decision-making process. This process included consultations with key officials within the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), public health departments and the local communities that support Hardrock. “We have met tirelessly as a Board and Run Committee over these past months. We know the economic impact to the region, as well as the desire of our runners - already postponed for a year - to experience Hardrock. In the end, safety to all was the overriding factor. Our event gathers runners, volunteers, crew and more from around the world into small, isolated mountain communities. We spent a lot of time asking questions and considering options, trying to find a safe version of Hardrock we could hold this year, but the difficult final decision was to cancel the run. We look forward to seeing every member of the Hardrock family in the San Juans in 2021,” shared Run Director Dale Garland. In the near future, we will be updating our community and runners registered for the 2020 Hardrock in regards to the impact this cancellation has on registrations for 2021.Press Release
