The “Hands & Voices IEP Meeting Planner” is a tool that was developed by Lisa Kovacs, (H&V HQ and H&V IN) to help families prepare and participate effectively ata
HANDS & VOICES :: UNILATERAL HEARING LOSS TIPS Get your child's attention and then start to talk. Provide occasional pauses in what you say to allow more time for your baby to understand the message. Place more emphasis on key words in a phrase. Parents can carefully observe their child and note any warning signs that hearing loss is affecting development. Consider these tips: HANDS & VOICES :: COMMUNICATION CONSIDERATIONS The system provides a visual counterpart to match both spoken and written English. It is often used in combination with speech and/or auditory training, and in simultaneous communication programs. The use of SEE does not exclude the use of ASL or other sign languages or sign systems. In fact, roughly 75% of the signs in SEE are the traditional HANDS & VOICES :: ARTICLES Preventing Learned Helplessness. By George Clark, M.Ed, CI, NAD IV and Laura Scheele, M.Ed. "Deaf and hard of hearing students are entitled to and can become independent, self-sufficient adults." Although it only took a few months to learn that my son Billy had a severe hearing loss, it felt like a lifetime had already gone by. It started with a challenging pregnancy, long labor, a stay in the NICU, multiple “failed” newborn hearing screens, and a horrifying experience with our first audiologist.
