Download our Adoption Manual. There are two ways you can adopt a greyhound from Greyhounds as Pets WA (GAP). One option is a Straight Adoption, in this model you are adopting a greyhound that has passed its Green Collar Assessment and spent a minimum of four weeks in foster care. DOG TAILS - TISH - GREYHOUNDS AS PETS Dog Tails September 1, 2017, 1:14 am. Remember Tish our senior greyhound who found her loving home in April? She now lives on rural property in WA with an incredible family enjoying country life. Tish’s new owner Robin says it was important to her that Tish became part of the family, joining them on outings and other littleadventures.

BUNBURY PRISON PROGRAM The Bunbury Prison Program sees prisoners care for GAP foster greyhounds around the clock, teaching them basic obedience and helping them transition to pet life. One option is a Straight Adoption, in this model you are adopting a greyhound that has passed its Green Collar Assessment and spent a minimum of four weeks in foster care. Additionally, all our greyhounds are sterilized, wormed, vaccinated and microchipped. FOSTER | GREYHOUNDS AS PETS Love and Patience – To put up with the occasional soiling accident, the initial sleepless nights and the little mistakes the dogs make while they “learn the ropes”!. Socialization – GAP asks that all foster dogs receive socialisation with other dogs in foster care. BRINGING A GREYHOUND INTO YOUR HOME During the foster period (4-6 weeks) your greyhound will adjust to their new life, however like all dogs, training should be ongoing once you adopt your greyhound. In the initial stages of taking a greyhound into a new foster or forever home, some dogs may show signs of stress such as pacing, heavy panting, listlessness, lack of interest in GREEN COLLARS & MUZZLES The Department of Local Government and Communities has amended the Dog Act 1976 to enable appropriately retired racing greyhounds to return to the community as pets without having to wear a muzzle. Our volunteers are at the core of Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) WA GREYHOUND ADOPTION MONTH Win first place in their heart and adopt a greyhound during this year’s Greyhound Adoption Month, with $75 adoptions during April 2021. Greyhounds are affectionate and sweet natured dogs who love human companionship. Despite their big appearance, greyhounds do not need vast amounts of space, in fact they thrive in urban spaces. Most greyhounds make the transition to a home environment quickly. During the foster period (4-6 weeks) your greyhound will adjust to their new life, however like all dogs, training should be ongoing once you adoptyour greyhound.

When first brought into the home, your greyhound should be treated in a similar manner to a puppy being house trained. After the greyhounds initial visit to the garden, we suggest you take your new pet for a short five minute walk (or VOLUNTEER | GREYHOUNDS AS PETS Volunteer. Greyhounds as Pets WA (or GAP) relies heavily on volunteers and values their contribution highly. We encourage an environment of mutual respect, where GAP Officers and volunteers work towards facilitating and promoting greyhound pet ownership and welfare. BUNBURY PRISON PROGRAM The Bunbury Prison Program sees prisoners care for GAP foster greyhounds around the clock, teaching them basic obedience and helping them transition to pet life. The program has been so successful at the prison pre-release unit that it is set to be expanded into the medium security prison in the coming weeks. JOIN US AT THE ROYAL SHOW!
