EAST RIVER GREENWAY
The East River Greenway is another car-free esplanade on the waterfront on the East River. It stretches from Battery Park in the south to 125th Street in north, about 9 miles, with a 1.2 mile-long gap between 34th Street and 60th Street where busy First and Second Avenues are needed to get around United Nations headquarters. CORONADO ISLAND & SILVER STRAND BEACH Coronado Island & Silver Strand Beach. Coronado Island has become a destination in San Diego since the Hotel Del Coronado was built in 1900. It is a great place for running, with numerous options. There’s a 7-mile bike path along the Silver Strand. Great ocean views and very open. This gravel multi-use path follows the former rail line that used to run from Grand Forks, BC to Hope, BC. The KVR Trail and the Columbia & Western Rail Trail combine for an extensive recreational trail providing almost 650 km (400OKANAGAN RAIL TRAIL
For an off-road run of just about any distance in the Okanagan Valley, pick a section of the Okanagan Rail Trail. The gravel-surfaced multi-use path follows a former rail bed between Kelowna and Vernon. As of summer 2021, 42.5 km of the planned 53 km trail is completed, with a 7 km gap between Ellison Lake (Duck Lake) and the KELOWNA WATERFRONT RUN This is a terrific waterfront run along Lake Okanagan, stretching from City Park in Kelowna north to Poplar Point. Much of the route is on a boardwalk or dedicated waterfront path. There are great views of the lake and surrounding mountains & countryside. A good place to start is at City Park in central Kelowna. Do a loop around the MISSION CREEK GREENWAY The Mission Creek Greenway is a great spot for an off-road run in the Kelowna area. The mainly gravel multi-use trail travels along Mission Creek from Okanagan Lake in South Kelowna east to KLO Creek in Scenic Canyon Regional Park. Much of the trail passes through some sort of parkland — a combination of wooded and open terrain. It’swell-signed

Glenmore Reservoir. A loop around Glenmore Reservoir, 10 miles southwest of downtown, is one of Calgary’s classic runs. Parking is available at the Glenmore Landing shopping area. Walua Road — Kona. Hilly. This 6 mile out and back is popular with bikers, walkers, and joggers, as it’s a quieter, less trafficked option in the Holualoa area, near Kamoa Point and Magic Sands Beach Park. Start just off Lako Street, mauka (towards the mountain) of Kuakini Highway. The western part of the loop skirts the Kiln THE C&O CANAL TRAIL & PARKRUN The C&O Canal Trail & Parkrun. The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Trail is a 184 mile (!) tow path that runs along the Potomac River all the way to Cumberland, MD. Very flat, crushed stone surface. The National Mall is one of the most iconic and inspiring runs in the world. The run “to do” is along the cinder paths between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, incorporating the Washington Monument, with the buildings of the Smithsonian flanking you on either side. Even though it’s not a long run, there are three “sections”: between the Monument HAMILTON/BURLINGTON BEACH WATERFRONT TRAIL The Waterfront Trail along Hamilton Beach is the other waterfront run in Hamilton. The paved, multi-use runs along for 13 uninterrupted km between Confederation Park in eastern Hamilton and Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. Choose a section! The Hamilton Beach part is nearly 9 km between the Burlington Bay Canal (Lighthouse, Harbor Signaling Point) east to Confederation Park. West of HUDSON RIVER GREENWAY The Hudson River Greenway, on the west side of Manhattan, maintains fabulous esplanades for walking, cycling and running with beautiful views of the river and New Jersey skyline. HENDRIE VALLEY GARDENS AND SANCTUARY (BURLINGTON) One of our favorite runs in Hamilton is on the trails in the Hendrie Valley, located in Burlington. The area is a 100 hectare sanctuary comprising a botanical garden, arboretum, and nature preserve. The trails are a combination of packed earth, crushed stone, boardwalk, and asphalt. featuring forested slopes with towering trees, marsh, and four creeks. Running is permitted here, JOYAMA PARK AND ZENKŌ-JI Joyama Park is a popular green space near the center of Nagano. It’s newly renovated as of 2021, and visitors flock here for the pristine paths and beautiful cherry blossoms. PRINCESS POINT & COOTES PARADISE TRAIL RUN For a fairly easy and scenic trail run featuring a variety of terrain, we recommend the area around Princess Point and Cootes Paradise. Princess Point is a park on a peninsula in Cootes Paradise Nature Sanctuary, featuring trails & a canoe launch. It’s a popular skating area in winter. Nagano is one of Japan’s core cities and the capital of the Nagano prefecture. It’s located in central inland Japan, at the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers. LAKE SUWA - GREAT RUNS Lake Suwa, located between Okaya and Suwa in the south part of the Nagano prefecture, is one of the top running destinations in Nagano. This massive body of water is surrounded by cherry blossoms, parkland, and a paved running route looping around the shore.SUSOBANA RIVER

The best places to run in Spokane include the extensive Centennial Trail and Manito Park, the Fish Lake Trail, the Liberty Lake and High Drive Bluff neighborhoods, and some great trail running options. THAMES RIVER PATHS AND BRIDGES Western Option: Westminster Bridge to Battersea Bridge. 6.5 miles. Follows the Thames Path on the south side to Battersea Park. Cross Albert Bridge and return on the north side. There’s a small road section o in the Battersea Park area. Add to the run by enjoying some of the trails in Battersea Park (~2 miles around the park’s paths),or
LANE COVE NATIONAL PARK Just about a 20 minute drive from the city is Lane Cove National Park. Here you will find a 6.8 mile running track following the shores of Land Cove River. Start in Chatswood Park (where there is parking available). Catch the Riverside Walk trail and enjoy the gnarled red gum trees and rocky outcroppings. Cross over the De Burghs Bridge KILN CREEK TRAIL LOOP Kiln Creek Trail Loop. Just south of Newport News Park and near the airport, Kiln Creek Trail is a 3.2 mile loop that parallels Kiln Creek Parkway. This is a pleasant running trail in a residential, village-y area, with views to golf courses as well. Start at Kiln Creek Park or anywhere convenient. The western part of the loop skirts the Kiln RUNNING IN BANGKOK, THAILAND. BEST PLACES TO RUN IN BANGKOK. The best places to go running in Bangkok are in a series of parks and green spaces. The most popular are Lumpini Park, Benjakitti Park, and Suan Luang Rama IX Park. A unique spot is Bang Kachao — an artificial island in the Chao Phraya River, which features a series of paths and roads that are great for running. LAKE MONONA: FULL LOOP AND MONONA BAY Lake Monona: Full Loop and Monona Bay. This large lake to the south of Madison is one of the top local destinations for a run of any length, whether it’s a quick jog around the bay, or a nice long loop along the entirety of the lake. If you have lots of energy, burn it off onTHE NATIONAL MALL
The National Mall is one of the most iconic and inspiring runs in the world. The run “to do” is along the cinder paths between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial, incorporating the Washington Monument, with the buildings of the Smithsonian flanking you on either side. Even though it’s not a long run, there are three “sections”: between the Monument HAMILTON/BURLINGTON BEACH WATERFRONT TRAIL The Waterfront Trail along Hamilton Beach is the other waterfront run in Hamilton. The paved, multi-use runs along for 13 uninterrupted km between Confederation Park in eastern Hamilton and Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. Choose a section! The Hamilton Beach part is nearly 9 km between the Burlington Bay Canal (Lighthouse, Harbor Signaling Point) east to Confederation Park. West of HUDSON RIVER GREENWAY The Hudson River Greenway, on the west side of Manhattan, maintains fabulous esplanades for walking, cycling and running with beautiful views of the river and New Jersey skyline. It is also perfect for seeing gorgeous sunset whilst running. The pathway stretches from the Bronx in the north all the way down to Battery Park at the south peakof Lower
HENDRIE VALLEY GARDENS AND SANCTUARY (BURLINGTON) One of our favorite runs in Hamilton is on the trails in the Hendrie Valley, located in Burlington. The area is a 100 hectare sanctuary comprising a botanical garden, arboretum, and nature preserve. The trails are a combination of packed earth, crushed stone, boardwalk, and asphalt. featuring forested slopes with towering trees, marsh, and four creeks. Running is permitted here, JOYAMA PARK AND ZENKŌ-JI Joyama Park is a popular green space near the center of Nagano. It’s newly renovated as of 2021, and visitors flock here for the pristine paths and beautiful cherry blossoms. PRINCESS POINT & COOTES PARADISE TRAIL RUN For a fairly easy and scenic trail run featuring a variety of terrain, we recommend the area around Princess Point and Cootes Paradise. Princess Point is a park on a peninsula in Cootes Paradise Nature Sanctuary, featuring trails & a canoe launch. It’s a popular skating area in winter. NAGANO, JAPAN
Nagano is one of Japan’s core cities and the capital of the Nagano prefecture. It’s located in central inland Japan, at the confluence of the Chikuma and Sai rivers. LAKE SUWA - GREAT RUNS Lake Suwa, located between Okaya and Suwa in the south part of the Nagano prefecture, is one of the top running destinations in Nagano. This massive body of water is surrounded by cherry blossoms, parkland, and a paved running route looping around the shore.SUSOBANA RIVER
Close to the central residential area of Nagano, runners can create a nice route along the Susobana River. Start from Saigawa Kasenjiki Parkwhere the Susobana

The historic 1998 Olympics, hosted by Nagano, are forever commemorated at the Minami Nagano Sports Park in south Nagano. RUNNING ON JEKYLL ISLAND. BEST PLACES TO RUN Jekyll Island is the southernmost of the Golden Isles, at 5,700 acres and popular with visitors. Originally a retreat of the wealthy, the island was acquired by the state in 1947, which has protected all but 1,600 acres from development. RUNNING IN LAKE TAHOE, CA. BEST ROUTES AND PLACES TO RUN The largest alpine lake in North America, Lake Tahoe is a popular recreation destination visited by nearly 3 million people annually. In summer, it’s a haven for its beaches, freshwater lake activities, and hiking, while in winter, skiers flock to the numerous resorts to enjoy the 400+ inches of annual snowfall. HERB GRAY PARKWAY TRAIL If you’re looking for a long, off-road run with some hill repeats, we recommend the Herb Gray Parkway Trail in West Windsor. This relatively new, paved trail runs parallel to the Herb Gray Parkway/Canada 401 for 8 km from Malden Park to just past Howard Ave. and can be combined with our Malden Park/Ojibway Woods route. This 6 mile out and back is popular with bikers, walkers, and joggers, as it’s a quieter, less trafficked option in the Holualoa area, near Kamoa Point and Magic Sands Beach Park. Start just off Lako Street, mauka (towards the mountain) of Kuakini Highway. OCEAN BEACH/SUNSET CLIFFS Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach is a great place to run in San Diego. You stay high on the windy cliffs with great views. A real treat at sunset. At the end of the road you can hike down the cliffs onto the beach. The route we’ve put together starts at Ocean Beach and follows Sunset Cliffs Blvd., out and RUNNING IN RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK.
