If you don’t feel you’re getting value from your subscription or perhaps your financial MAKING A STUD PARTITION WALL IN A GARAGE The studs were installed using L-brackets – this is an easy way of installing the studs by yourself since the wall will be largely supported by the MDF sheets anyway. This also makes it much easier to dismantle at a later date since this is just temporary. I wouldn’t generally recommend this method for plasterboard / drywall sheets. HEAVY STUFF ON WALLS It doesn’t take much drilling to take a 10mm mortar joint up to a 14mm hole. Insert your fixing and proceed as normal. The anchor can grip on to the upper / lower bricks or the sides of bricks in a vertical joint. This has the added advantage of not cracking thebricks / blocks.
HOW TO PAINT MELAMINE? Then use a damp cloth to remove any dust from the sanding. The MFC needs to be dry to paint it so use some blue roll to dry it. Paint the melamine with an appropriate primer or primer undercoat. Allow to dry completely (overnight). Apply 2 coats of your chosen top coat. In this project the customer had a walk-in wardrobe that needed some extra storage space for clothes. They needed a custom-built shelving unit with hanging rail to the side. Finally the TV is hung from the bracket using the INSTALLING A PLASTERBOARD CEILING BY YOURSELF Stud timber was installed in appropriate locations around the ceiling to ensure there were suitable fixing points for the drywall all around the room. 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard was used for the ceiling, cut using a Stanley knife and screwed in place using drywall screws. Lifting the bigger sheets in place can be tricky on your own! HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE FLOATING ALCOVE SHELVES This is a project where I’m making some very simple floating alcove shelves. These are made in such a way that all of the fixings and supports are hidden. The shelf top and bottoms are made from MDF. Loosen the locking nut with a small spanner and you can then remove your machine screw. This is also the method you can use on unheaded threaded inserts. I prefer to use carbon steel insert nuts are they’re robust and very unlikely to break. Obviously if the fitting will be subject to any dampness make sure you use corrosion resistantnuts.

If you don’t feel you’re getting value from your subscription or perhaps your financial HOW TO PAINT MELAMINE? Then use a damp cloth to remove any dust from the sanding. The MFC needs to be dry to paint it so use some blue roll to dry it. Paint the melamine with an appropriate primer or primer undercoat. Allow to dry completely (overnight). Apply 2 coats of your chosen top coat. HOW DO YOU PAINT THE EDGES OF MDF? Prime the MDF using a good acrylic primer undercoat. One the primer is bone dry, sand the edges of the MDF until they’re smooth. Re-prime any bare edges after sanding and allow it to dry. Apply 2 coats of your chosen top coat of paint. The above will work in HEAVY STUFF ON WALLS It doesn’t take much drilling to take a 10mm mortar joint up to a 14mm hole. Insert your fixing and proceed as normal. The anchor can grip on to the upper / lower bricks or the sides of bricks in a vertical joint. This has the added advantage of not cracking thebricks / blocks.
MAKING A STUD PARTITION WALL IN A GARAGE The studs were installed using L-brackets – this is an easy way of installing the studs by yourself since the wall will be largely supported by the MDF sheets anyway. This also makes it much easier to dismantle at a later date since this is just temporary. I wouldn’t generally recommend this method for plasterboard / drywall sheets. HOW TO INSTALL A HEAVY TV ON DOT & DAB I drilled 4 x 14mm holes in the wall for the shield anchor bolts using an SDS drill. I then used plastic spacers to fill the cavity between the TV bracket and the bolts, which were fully inserted in to the wall. The spacers help to stop the cavity from being crushed when the bolts are tightened. Finally the TV is hung from the bracket using the HOW STRONG ARE BISCUIT JOINTS? TEST TUESDAY! MDF used: Trupan 18mm non-MR. Biscuits used: UJK No. 20 biscuits. Glue used: Titebond II (clamped for 24hrs) Size of back test piece: 142mm x 190mm. Size of front test load piece: 142mm x 50mm. Sometimes when you’re gluing up a joint the two pieces of wood can slide around a bit during clamping. This becomes annoying and results in an inaccurate joint.
