HOW DO YOU BECOME A SCUBA INSTRUCTOR? It does not matter if your dive training to date has been with PADI or other training agencies such as SSI, BSAC, CMAS. We can help you become an instructor , qualifying you with the most sought after scuba diving training agency in the world. As long as you have an entry level scuba diving certification within the last three months you can reach the level of instructor within three months of arriving in Roatan.
If you are not yet certified you can train to the level of PADI divemaster in the first three months and can build your dive experience for a while before taking the IDC once you have been a certified diver for six months. If you are from outside Honduras you will need to leave the country during this period as the maximum length of time you can remain in Honduras on a visitor visa is 90 days. This could just involve a short trip to another central american country nearby. If you want to make a career out of scuba diving you should target being a PADI OWSI or even MSDT. Paid work is available as divemaster in some locations, but it is almost impossible to find in Roatan or the Bay Islands.
As a scuba instructor you will not always be teaching courses. Being a dive instructor is the best of both worlds. You get to teach people to dive, introducing them to the stunning underwater world for the first time in many cases, as well as guide more experienced divers on underwater tours. Most dive shops in Roatan use PADI instructors to do the job of both divemaster and instructor. That is why it is much easier to find work as an instructor than it is as a divemaster. If you wish to do the IDC (Instructor Development Course) and become an Open Water Scuba Instructor, you will first need to be a divemaster. This six week course gives you all the fundamental dive a nd supervisory skills you need. The PADI instructor development process then orients you to the PADI system of dive education and how to use it to create safe enthusiastic scuba divers. As an Open Water Scuba instructor you will be qualified to teach, The PADI open water course, Advanced open water course, Rescue diver course and Divemaster course amongst others.
