The geology collection. The museum’s geology collection consists of around 18,000 items. As early as 1778 is was documented in the minutes that the museum had collected ores and petrified materials. The Museum of Natural History is Gothenburg’s oldest museum. It was established in 1833, when it was based on the collections of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg. The museum moved from the East India building to a new, purpose-built location in Slottsskogen in 1923, where it was extended in 1981. The professional activity is to care for the collections and make them accessible, it also includes providing a service to the public, to researchers and to institutions in Sweden and abroad. ÅRSTRYCK 2020 FINNS NU TILLGÄNGLIGT ATT LADDA NER OCH LÄSA Museet ger varje år ut en årsberättelse som vi kallar Årstryck. I Årstrycket presenterar vi vad som har hänt på museet under det gångna året men vi sammanfattar också zoologiska nyheter inom våra intendenters respektive områden. Nu finns Årstryck 2020 att laddaner och läsa här.
CITIZEN SCIENCE: HJÄLP OSS KARTLÄGGA EN NY INVASIV SNIGELART Förra hösten uppmärksammades svarthuvad snigel Krynickillus melanocephalus för första gången i Sverige. Den lever naturligt i Kaukasus och har troligen spridits utanför sitt ursprungliga utbredningsområde via människans handel med växter. Arten bedöms av forskare som invasiv vilket betyder att den riskerar att göra skada på, och tränga undan andra arter från de ekosystem som den introducerats till. Ser du snigeln i din trädgård eller i naturen - rapportera gärna in! NU ÄR D.YRJARGUL OCH D.NORDENSKIOELDI HÄR! TVÅ NYA NAKENSNÄCKOR KÄNDA FÖR VETENSKAPEN Den ena upptäcktes i Trondheimsfjorden i Norge den andra i Laptev-havet i Sibirien. I september kunde D.yrjargul och D.nordenskioeldi presenteras som två helt nya arter i en ny global översyn av släktet Dendronotus eller trädnudingar. Den vetenskapliga artikeln som publicerades med ”open acess” i tidskriften Contributions to Zoology är ett samarbete mellan svenska, ryska och norska forskare och dykare. KUNSKAPSTUNGT NÄTVERK KOPPLADE TILL SAMLINGAR SLUTER UPP FÖR ATT SÄKRA FORSKNING PÅ KOMMANDE VIRUS Hur hänger så kallade zoonoser ihop med förlust av biologisk mångfald och hur kan delad vetenskaplig kunskap och data ur naturvetenskapliga samlingar bidra till att vi kan förhindra framtida pandemier? Under våren 2020 har experter från hela världen sammanträtt i ett specialutformat nätverk. FRÅGA OSS OM DJUR & NATUR FRÅGA OSS OM DJUR OCH NATUR Vad är du nyfiken på om naturen och om djur? Har du hittat något du inte sett förut? Ta chansen att vara frågvis - skicka ett mail till museets experter. För frågor om växter vänd dig till våra kunniga kollegor på Göteborgs botaniska trädgård. HAR DU GJORT EN VALOBSERVATION? Har du sett eller hittat en val eller tumlare? Som en del i det nationella nätverket valar.se tar vi emot allmänhetens uppgifter kring valars förekomst längs med våra kuster. På sidan kan du läsa om aktuella observationer, hur du själv rapporterar in och om svensk valforskning. ARTBESTÄMNING AV SKADEDJUR Vi tar gärna emot frågor från allmänheten och hjälper dig med artbestämning av bland annat skadedjur. Men har du problem med skadedjur och behöver sanera, så är det till en skadedjursbekämpningsfirma du ska vända dig. Frågor om bett, utslag eller klåda är inget vi kan besvara eftersom vi inte har någon medicinsk kompetens. För dessa frågor bör du kontakta dinvårdcentral.
LÄMNA IN UPPHITTADE DJUR Var med och hjälp till att förbättra museets vetenskapliga samlingar genom att lämna in upphittade avlidna djur. Museet bedriver numera främst passiv insamling, vilket innebär att vi tar hand om en del av det material som kommer in i form av donationer. SAMLINGAR OCH FORSKNINGSÖK I SAMLINGARNA
En viktig del av arbetet med museets samlingar är att digitalisera dem så att de blir tillgängliga och kan användas. Registrering av föremål pågår kontinuerligt. I dagsläget finns fyra ingångar eller sökfunktioner; sök i de zoologiska samlingarna, sök i insektssamlingen, sök i geologikatalogen samt sök i fotosamlingen. LÅN AV VETENSKAPLIGT MATERIAL Preparat och föremål ur våra vetenskapliga samlingar kan utlånas till vetenskapliga institutioner för att användas i forskning. Här hittar du som forskare mer information om hur du går till väga.TYPSAMLINGEN
Typsamlingen på Göteborgs Naturhistoriska Museum är minst sagt unik. En så kallad typ är ett referensmaterial som används i vetenskapliga sammanhang för forskare över hela världen. I museets samlingar finns cirka 2000 typer.INFO & ÖPPETTIDER
Göteborgs naturhistoriska museum håller stängt för besökare fram till den 10 januari 2021. Anledningen är att Folkhälsomyndigheten och Smittskydd Västra Götaland den 19 november har beslutat att förlänga de skärpta råden i Västra Götalandför att stoppa den
