Launch of the International Commission on Climate and Energy Security Speaking ahead of the launch of the International Commission on Climate and Energy Security, GLOBE's President, said ‘GLOBE will be convening some of the most senior legislators in the world in Washington DC at the end of March. The Commission has been charged to report ahead of the crucial Copenhagen UNFCCC COP. It is intended that the Commission will provide the context for an informal engagement between national legislators that can be closely relayed to the leaders of the major economies. Fundamentally, the Commission needs to help to create the political conditions for success at COP15 in Copenhagen in 2009.”

Select Committee Chairs write to the Prime Minister calling for leadership to put the UK at the forefront of the low carbon

The Times newspaper today printed a joint letter from the Rt Hon Elliot Morley MP (Labour), Chair of the Select Committee on Energy and Climate Change; Rt Hon Tim Yeo MP (Conservative), Chair of the Environment Audit Select Committee; and Rt Hon Malcolm Bruce MP (Liberal Democrat), Chair of the International Development Select Committee, calling for international leadership underpinned at home with a budget promise to increase the low carbon element of the UK's stimulus package to a minimum of 20 per cent.
