QUILTING AND SEWING TUTORIALS I don’t know how I stumbled on your website but I’m so glad I did. You have helped me so much to build confidence with machine quilting. I’ve been a hand-quilter for many years and it’s hard to learn something that much different but I am! 3D PINWHEEL TUTORIAL How many charm square packs do you have at home? I don't collect charm squares, I don't buy everything that is new or I like and still I have 4 charm packs! So if you don't know how to use them, here is an idea: 3D pinwheels. You can make this design as scrappy as you want (using your scraps), but I think the assorted squares of a collection you find in a pack make the design even more beautiful. TIPS FOR SEWING WITH FOAM Foam (like Bosal In-R-Form, Pellon Flex Foam, Soft and Stable by Annie) is one of my favorite types of interfacing that I use for bags and pouches. But foam is bulky and if it remains in the seam allowances, you will end up with bulky seam allowances. For many patterns this is not a problem (I use it this way a lot in my bags) but it really depends on the construction of the bag/pouch. TEMPLATES FOR ENGLISH PAPER PIECING I think one of the the most popular shapes for English paper piecing is the hexagon. We need paper templates for English paper piecing and we could buy these templates or ENGLISH PAPER PIECING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS Final note. Do you have an English paper piecing project in progress? I think it is a great idea to have one, at all times. A few paper templates, some fabric scraps and when you will have only 10 or 20 minutes for sewing, instead of feeling sorry for you that you don’t have enough time to tackle that BIG project, feel accomplished by just basting and sewing a few hexies together. IDEAS FOR USING GRADATION/OMBRE FABRIC FOR QUILTING There are a few cool things about my latest quilts. One is the reverse applique technique, then it’s the knife and then the pair design+fabric. I started with simple solid fabric but there are so many options for all the 18 designs included in the pattern. THREAD FOR ENGLISH PAPER PIECING Last year, when I stitched the hexagon quilt, I wasn't concerned about the thread used for hand piecing the hexagons together; I had many colors of a cotton thread and I tried to piece the hexagons with matching thread. But for our group quilt, we want the stitching be invisible. This is not easy to achieve if you don't have the proper thread. One of my friends told me about the silk threadPIECING FLEECE
One of my friends sent me a few strips of fleece and yesterday I made a blanket for my little nephew. These are 5'' squares. I stitched them with long stitches and the widest seam allowances. I pieced the blocks and finger pressed the seam allowances open then I stitched them down. No bulky seam allowances on the back side. Some of the blocks distorted more than others so that I adjusted RAINBOW SEMINOLE PATCHWORK TUTORIAL- PART I That is a beautiful piece. I made a square dance skirt like that starting with seven strips. The two outside strips were the same: adark navy.
GETA'S QUILTING STUDIO Let's add one more skill to the ever-growing fabric fun we all experience. Plastic snaps! If you see projects that involve plastic snaps and you are sad that you can't do it, because it seems complicated and you don't have what you need (I was there, I know the feeling!), I will show you how easy it is to install these prettyaccents.
