Classes — Genspace. At Genspace, our mission is to foster a safe and inclusive community where all people can experientially learn, boldly create, and meaningfully grow with the life sciences. No science background is needed to take our classes or participate in our events. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about BIOROCKET — GENSPACE July 12 - August 19, 2021. Monday - Thursday. 9:00am - 5:00pm (2 days, in-person) OR. 10:00am - 3:00pm (2 days, online) Eligibility Requirements: 15 years of age or older by July 1, 2021. Live OR attend a NYC Public or Charter School within 45 minutes of Genspace*. Commitment to participate in the program from July to December 2021. MISSION — GENSPACE Within a year, co-founders Nurit Bar-Shai, Ellen Jorgensen, Daniel Grushkin, Russell Durrett, and Oliver Medvedik opened Genspace, the first-ever community biotechnology laboratory in downtown Brooklyn, New York. Angela Armendariz, Ph.D., is the former Director of Operations at Genspace. Before coming to Genspace Angela was the Living Systems Facility Manager at the Exploratorium, a museum of science, art, and perception, in San Francisco, CA. Previously, she was a postdoctoral fellow at Children’s Hospital of Oakland Research Institute. Community Projects are group research projects that meet weekly and are run out of our lab. Participants pay $100/month to be members of Genspace and have the opportunity to explore advanced lab techniques in a supportive and collaborative environment. Biorocket Internship. The Biorocket Program is a spring after-school hands-on science program and summer research internship experience for New York City public high school students age 15 and up. about the lab. Since 2010, Genspace has provided lab space to independent researchers, scientists, artists, designers, entrepreneurs, hobbyists, teachers and students. In 2017, we moved to a new facility in Sunset Park where we can provide even more space and resources to our members. Our lab follows Biosafety Level 1guidelines.
HIGHER EDUCATION
Genspace partners with colleges and universities to nurture creative approaches to the sciences in the next generation of practicioners. The Biodesign Challenge is our largest arts and design program, spanning 27 schools and 9 countries in 2018.
