The Gaithersburg Book Festival is a celebration of the written word and its power to enrich the human experience. Our mission is to foster an interest in reading, writing and literary conversation. Overall, this is one of the best book festivals I’ve done, and certainly the best organized. Kudos GBF 2021: STILL VIRTUAL, STILL AWESOME! We've made a decision. The 2021 GBF will be held virtually, with 30+ author presentations, as well as several writing workshops for adults, teens and children scheduled throughout the month of May. World Building, once the domain of Sci Fi and Fantasy, is now a requirement for all types of writing, even narrative non-fiction. In this short workshop, through exercises and short instruction, participants will create a fully-fleshed world, not just with streets and roads, mountains and waterways, but artifacts, technology, politics, economic systems and the power dynamic between characters. HOW TO WRITE A KEY SCENE A celebration of books, writers, and literary excellence. A key scene is an essential building block in any work of fiction. In this session, you'll learn tips and strategies for making the scene you see in your head come alive on the page so that your reader is compelled to keep turning the pages, rather than turn out the light.
