HOW TO BUILD A WOOD SCREEN DOOR FROM SCRATCH How to build a wood screen door from scratch. Adding ‘professional builder’ to my long list of to-dos was really never in my sights. For the past 10 years, I’ve gotten along with my somewhat primitive (rustic) building techniques teaming up reclaimed wood and screws. HOW TO CONDITION METAL WITH HEMP OIL AND SPRAY SEALERS How to condition metal: . Clean the piece well with soapy water and buff dry. If rust is flaky, scrape off flakes with a grill wire brush. MAKE THESE UP-CYCLED WATER FOUNTAINS FOR THE BACKYARD Make these up-cycled water fountains for the backyard! When I was down south last summer for the World’s Longest Yard Sale, I came upon this quirky wine bottle water fountain during our junk hunts. I smiled, questioned the gent about where he got it HOW TO MAKE A GIANT NUMBER OR LETTERFUNKY JUNK INTERIORS I sanded the edges until they were back to wood, and slapped black on the edges and white on top, using pretty rough cross hatch kind of strokes and built up a texture. Then did a wash of watered down taupe paint. (wipe on, wipe off, nothing technical) The glaze sunk in nicely in all the right rough places. MUCH better! When Julie introduced the idea of all of us trying to build a tool box, my first thought was, “But I like old authentic stuff and I can make most anything work that I find, so why build one?”. Well, Miss Julie made me put my thinking cap on. REFINISHING WOOD WITH WAX AND HEMP OIL The hemp oil (far left) drew out deepest tones in the wood. For the two on the far right, the antiquing wax is a deeper chocolate tone, and the white wax resembles a thick white wash. Well, Miss Julie made me put my thinking cap on. I’ve never built one before, but my criteria quickly became all nit picky like and soon HOW TO MAKE A GIANT NUMBER OR LETTERFUNKY JUNK INTERIORS I sanded the edges until they were back to wood, and slapped black on the edges and white on top, using pretty rough cross hatch kind of strokes and built up a texture. Then did a wash of watered down taupe paint. (wipe on, wipe off, nothing technical) The glaze sunk in nicely in all the right rough places. MUCH better! REFINISHING WOOD WITH WAX AND HEMP OIL The hemp oil (far left) drew out deepest tones in the wood. For the two on the far right, the antiquing wax is a deeper chocolate tone, and the white wax resembles a thick white wash. I didn’t sand the wood prior, and applied each finish with one coat, using a rag. Finishes Dry (left to right) 1. Miss Mustard Seed Hemp Oil.
