Tune Up Your Gears. Modern enclosed guitar tuners have cast metal bodies and are usually held in place by a threaded collar that tightens from the face of the peghead. The holes could be filled with a synthetic compound, a mixture of glue and sawdust, or they could be inlaid with new wood. In general, filling the dents with an different material tends to produce an uneven wear in the future, and the filled areas stand out clearly.FRETS.COM
First, I dunk a cotton swab in some acetone, and blot it against a scrap of paper towel so it is just moist, not drippy: Then, LIGHTLY touching it to the surface of the finish in an unobtrusive, easy to buff area, I'll see if it makes a mark like this: Next, I'll wipe the mark with my finger to make sure it's really an etched spot in thefinish.

Nut Action. The nut serves to define and maintain the spacing of the strings, and to hold them at the proper height. If the nut is too low, the string will bump into the first fret when it is played and it will "buzz," even if the rest of the instrument is properly set up andworking well.

Nut Action. The nut serves to define and maintain the spacing of the strings, and to hold them at the proper height. If the nut is too low, the string will bump into the first fret when it is played and it will "buzz," even if the rest of the instrument is properly set up andworking well.

FRETS.COM. Bridge Plate Replacement. This is a classic repair. The bridge had become loose while this 1964 Martin 0-16NY sat in its case, unnoticed by its owner. Months or years of relentless pull by the strings slowly deformed the top, which was no longer supported by the strength of the bridge.TUNE UP YOUR GEARS
Tune Up Your Gears. Modern enclosed guitar tuners have cast metal bodies and are usually held in place by a threaded collar that tightens from the face of the peghead.
