The park was created in the 1880s thanks to a backroom deal between the Canadian Pacific Railway and thefederal government.
A DEVASTATING HISTORY OF STANLEY PARK The Dark Secrets of Stanley Park Tour is a journey through a wild forest – and an equally wild history! Stanley Park was supposed to be an untamed rainforest. Almost 1,000 acres of virgin Pacific Northwest woodland preserved in a natural, pristine state. THE MARINE BUILDING IN VANCOUVER The Marine Building looming over onlookers following the Greenhill Park explosion in 1945. The SS Greenhill Park was a 10,000 ton freighter with combustible cargo that exploded in Vancouver Harbour, killing 8 longshoremen and injuring 19 more. TOP 10 VANCOUVER ART DECO The Power Block is located near the intersection of Granville and Robson streets. The Power Block’s main building was originally a saloon, built in 1888; an Art Deco façade was added to the structurein 1929.
