TFR’S | FLIGHT TRAINING THE FAST AND EASY WAY Step 3 – Confirm the rules. The morning of my flight I reviewed the TFR information to be sure nothing had changed. This is an important step because the President’s schedule can and does change. I also got a flight briefing and confirmed my understanding with the briefer.Step 4
STUDENT PILOT SUPPLIES The Following Items Can Be Purchased Any Time. The items below include a flight bag to carry all your pilot supplies and an aviation headset. There are many headsets out there to choose from. Prices vary between a couple of hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars. A headset really is needed to be able to hear things but if you don’t have BUY OR RENT A PLANE? Good used planes will cost $40,000 to $50,000 or more. With a plane payment of around $700 a month included, your cost to own a plane without even flying it could be close to $1200 a month or more! Add the price of fuel and oil when you fly and you can plan on another $50 an hour! You could rent a plane for 9 hours every month at $135 perhour
IFR PREFLIGHT CHECK
The answer is to give it 5 minutes. It can take 2-3 minutes for the gyros to spin up fast enough to correct the attitude indicator but it can take as long as 5 minutes per the Instrument Flying Handbook . If it hasn’t corrected itself in 5 minutes, it should be considered unreliable for IFR flight. WEATHER TRAINING FOR PILOTS It’s only $24. Isn’t your life worth that? It’s not like the typical hard to understand videos using technical terms that confuse you. It’s designed so you will feel comfortable making safe “GO, NO-GO” decisions. It’s about as easy as it gets. If you don’t want to buy it, then don’t, but at least do the best you can tolearn
S-TURNS ACROSS A ROAD The purpose of S-Turns and other ground reference maneuvers is to prepare you for landing. During the S-Turn you are at an altitude that is the same as the typical traffic pattern. You are learning about maintaining the proper speed, wind correction and also timing your rollouts to be on a specific heading at the right time. You aredeveloping
COLOR BLINDNESS AND PRIVATE PILOT TRAINING Getting your pilot license with color blindness. I remember being so infatuated with being an Army helicopter pilot as a child that it drove me silly. One day while interviewing (or more realistically drooling in the presence of a superhero) a helicopter pilot, I found out that my red/green color blindness was a disqualification and thatI was
PRIVATE PILOT VISION REQUIREMENT The private pilot vision requirement is 20/40. Don’t worry, that doesn’t mean that you can’t fly if your vision is worse. You just need to be able to correct your vision to 20/40 to do so. If you need glasses to correct your vision to 20/40 then you will have a restriction on your medical certificate saying that you must wearcorrective

Flight Training Books and Supplies. If you’ve signed up to begin flight lessons at my new flight school called Pilot Flight Training Courses out of Lake in the Hills Airport in Northern Illinois, these are the books and supplies you will need to begin training. There are a couple of smaller items like Charts and Chart supplements that are not included in the list because they have expirationEMERGENCY DESCENT
The way that works the best is to put in full flaps (as long as you’re in the flap operating range) and start a descending turn using 45° of bank. You want to pitch forward enough to keep it in the white arc. Keep the speed near the top of the white arc but not quite on the edge of it. This should give you around a 2000′ per minutedescent
HOW TO FIND THE 45° ENTRY Once you have imagined the airport split into a left and right side and a near (area before the airport) and a far (area past the airport) side, then we will figure out which one of these quadrants the 45° entry will be in. In order to do that we need to know what runway we will be using. For this example we will assume we are using runway 7.TIPS FOR S-TURNS
The distance from the road should be pretty tight, usually around 1/2 mile or less. Let’s assume that the winds were really strong and you entered the maneuver into the wind. Turning required very little bank because the wind was pushing you back. By the time you get half way through the turn 1/2 mile from the road, you may only be in a 25JOSEPH STANDLEY

I read through the VOR lesson today from your website. THANK YOU! Before getting your VOR lesson, I read both the test prep and handbook sections on VOR’s from other books and could follow what they were saying but not apply it. I would take practice tests and get several of the questions wrong. After I read your booklet, I went straight to the Gleim and ASA test prep questions. The only one I missed was because I estimated a length (NM on a chart) incorrectly. So it works! I had to go back and reread my textbook to see why I was so confused in the first place because it seemed straight forward after your description. I think the reason I understood your method better was you described and then applied each portion of a difficult topic individually. The difference seemed to be you took each part; Radial, CDI and to/from, explained it and then immediately demonstrated how to apply it. Like–you’ve got to learn to hold altitude in level flight before you start practicing stalls with minimum altitude loss. I’m still working on that one.Have a good week“
