ANNOUNCEMENTS
CITY OF OTTAWA ADOPTS BIRD-SAFE DESIGN GUIDELINESIn
2007, the City of Toronto, working in partnership with FLAP Canada and other stakeholders, published the world’s first _Bird Friendly-Development Guidelines_ (BFDG). Since then, FLAP has consulted with numerous cities across Canada and the United States to implement similar guidelines and standards. Vancouver, Calgary, Markham, Chicago, and San Francisco are just a few of the municipalities that recognize bird collisions with the built environment pose a significant threat to birds, and have adopted some form of bird-building collision management strategies. On November 25, 2020, the City of Ottawa staff & councillors joined the growing list of cities to adopt bird–building collision management strategies through the introduction of its voluntary _Bird-Safe Design Guidelines_ (BSDG). FLAP Canada is honored and proud to have been included in this process and wish to thank all those involved who helped make thispossible.

What do an adorable owl, a tiny kinglet, and an unassuming thrush have in common? All of them had an unfortunate collision with a window and all of them were rescued during #GlobalBirdRescue2020.
