Today, the current incarnation of Finnix is over 7 years old, and the Finnix project as a whole is over 12 years old. In fact, Finnix is the oldest LiveCD project still in production. Dozens of releases have been made, with new versions of Finnix being released quarterly onaverage.

Forensics mode has been discontinued as of Finnix 120. There are a number of dedicated forensics utility CDs, though as it's not Finnix's area of focus, we refrain from making a replacement recommendation. NETBOOT - FINNIX
Run finnix-netboot-server. It is an interactive curses application, and will do the following: Ask for the current running session's IP address. The program will fill in its best guess, and is used for setting up the TFTP boot menu to pass the appopriate NFS location to Finnix. Build a netboot FINNIX 121 RELEASE NOTES Enabled zram swap compression, 50% of physical RAM. Release ISOs layouts are again being optimized for CD-ROMs. This has no negative (or positive) effect when the ISO is written to a USB key, but speeds up CD-ROM booting by placing all known files PENTIUM D VS PENTIUM 4 The Pentium D does an excellent job compared to the Pentium 4 3.4GHz. After hearing the "1+1 = far less than 2" hype surrounding the dual core processors, I didn't expect results this good. As of version 111, Finnix includes armhf downloads, which can be used to boot Finnix on certain ARM systems.ARM support is currently categorized as a "technology preview" and is not officially supported by Finnix or targeted for a release with each Finnix release.PROJECT HISTORY
Finnix was born in 1999. At the time, very few LiveCD distributions existed; the phrase LiveCD wasn't even coined yet. Linuxcare had released its "Bootable Toolbox", a set of utilities in a 50MB businesscard CD. FORENSICS - FINNIX
Finnix 103 and later includes a forensic mode, which is designed to avoid automatic actions that could potentially change data on media. When booting with the "forensic" or "forensics" boot flag, Finnix behavior changes as so: All block devices found during initrd probing are set to read-only at the block layer, before any mounting isattempted.

Linux kernel 3.10 is included, USB 3.0 boot support has been fixed, PowerPC G5 automatic fan / thermal control has been implemented, and "nomodeset" is now passed by default, increasing boot compatibility on many Radeon graphics cards.
