FINESCALE MODELER
FineScale Modeler magazine - Essential magazine for scale model builders, model kit reviews, how-to scale modeling, and scale modelingproducts.
BUILD REVIEW OF THE AMT 1964 OLDSMOBILE F-85 CUTLASS FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/25 scale plastic model car kit. Round 2 has now perfected a kit “cloning” technique that allows them to tool new kit parts to pair up with the original unaltered molds for kits such as the 1964 Cutlass. In addition to the main body, the grille, bumpers, clear and tinted red parts, and seats are all newlytooled.
BUILD REVIEW OF THE AMT KENWORTH/CHALLENGER TRANSIT MIXER FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/25 scale plastic model cement mixer kit. There’s a lot of plastic in this kit — 469 parts — with the bulk of them molded in white. Four sprues of chrome-plated parts plus one each of clear, transparent red, and transparent yellow round out the contents. Options abound, including different wheel configurations and hydraulic pump locations. TAMIYA SDKFZ 2 KETTENKRAFTRAD MID-PRODUCTION FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/35 scale plastic model half-tracked vehicle kit. Tamiya has a new-tooled 1/35 scale model of the Kettenkrad that replaces its original model first produced in 1973. It consists of 256 styrene parts molded in dark yellow with two photo-etched metal (PE) screens for the engine compartment. The molding is crisp with only a few ejector-pin marks. BUILD REVIEW OF THE HOBBYBOSS MV-22 OSPREY SCALE MODEL FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/48 scale plastic model aircraft kit. The kit’s 260 parts feature beautiful, recessed rivets and panel lines. Unfortunately, large sprue gates hit many of the mating surfaces. I used a razor saw to remove most of the parts but many of the attachment points are awkwardly positioned. The canopy and windows are very clear and decals are provided for one BUILD REVIEW OF THE ICM CR.42 FALCO SCALE MODEL BIPLANE FineScale Modeler reviews the 1/32 scale plastic model biplane aircraft kit. Biplanes twisting and turning, vying for advantage was a combat mode left over from the World War I; except the Regia Aeronautica (Italian Air Force) still thought it was a viable option leading up to the beginning of the World War II with its highly agile, and outdated, CR.42 Falco. The kit comes well-packed in a large box containing hull and deck as single pieces; only the hull rear plate is separate. The deck features a planking effect so subtle it disappears under even the lightest coat of paint. APPLYING TAMIYA CLEAR I'm getting back into models after 25+ years. I've been watching youtube videos and learning a lot. One technique I discovered was applying 3 or more coats of Tamiya clear and buffing to a shine.FINESCALE MODELER

HOMEMADE DECAL SOLVENT Like Don S said, decal setting solution and decal softening solution are two different things. I use setting solution (Microsol product with a blue label) under the decal to prevent silvering, and softening solution (the Microsol product with the red label) on the top to soften the decal so it will conform to the surface.CS.FINESCALE.COM
