MONARCH COMMUNITY SCIENCE PROJECT From June through early September, we enjoy seeing the familiar monarch butterfly across Chicago. Many monarchs start their journey south right here in the city. But they need their host plant, milkweed, in order to survive and continue on their epic migration. We’re asking residents across the Chicagoland area to join us in recording information about milkweed plants in their yards and GUIDES | FIELD GUIDES This is part of our program to create tools to speed up the identification of organisms, and speed up the learning and identification process for everyone: biologists and beginners.FIELD MUSEUM

The Searle Family Lounge features temporary displays of large collections items you can examine up close (think: dinosaur skull or giant microscope). Objects inevitably deteriorate, but our objective as preservers of material culture is to slow the rate of deterioration as far as possible. Preventive conservation efforts aim to reduce damage and deterioration to collections by improving their environment. INSECTS, ARACHNIDS AND MYRIAPODS The Division of Insects covers insects, arachnids (spiders and their relatives), and myriapods (millipedes, centipedes and their relatives). Before the Field, Siggers was the director of the Penn Museum in Philadelphia from 2012 to 2020. He oversaw the renovation of many of the museum’s galleries and public spaces, including the Middle East Galleries, Africa Galleries, and Mexico and Central America Gallery. He also established the Center for the Analysis of Archaeological SEARLE FAMILY LOUNGE Pause and examine something new. The Searle Family Lounge features temporary displays of large collections items you can examine up close (think: dinosaur skull or giant microscope). While going on an expedition to search for fossils may sound glamorous, it involves a lot of hard work—sometimes in pretty extreme environments. Of course, it’s very rewarding when you find something, especially an entirely new species of dinosaur. From Antarctica to Patagonia to Utah, Field Museum paleontologists have been all over the world. APSÁALOOKE WOMEN AND WARRIORS Celebrate bravery and beauty with the Apsáalooke people.
