Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana is a member of Feeding America, the Nation’s Food Bank Network. Incorporated in 1983, Second Harvest has seen an average 15% growth each year since 1985 to a current distribution of more than 5 million pounds of food and grocery products to people in need in our eight county region. FEDERAL FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a program of the USDA and administered by the Indiana State Department of Health that provides commodity food that is distributed to local agencies through Indiana’s food banks. Mandatory commodities are provided at a level set by the Farm Bill, adjusted annually for food inflation. INDIANA IMPACT BY THE NUMBERS Indiana Impact By the Numbers. Food banks across Indiana saw a significant increase in food distribution this past year. 156 million pounds of food was distributed throughout Indiana, setting a record. FRONT LINE FOOD BANK WORKERS HONORED BY FEEDING AMERICA Feeding America annually chooses a food bank that has gone above and beyond to serve the needs of their community. This year, in recognition of their work during the pandemic, the award went to the front line food bank workers from all 200 food banks in the Feeding America network. This award was given to honor the truck drivers, warehouse workers, operations teams, and front line staff. P-EBT UPDATE: INFORMATION ON ROUND II OF P-EBT ISSUANCE The State of Indiana has received approval from the USDA to issue additional P-EBT benefits to eligible students enrolled at schools operating remotely during the 2020-21 school year through September 30, 2020. Food insecurity is estimated to rise 40% in Indiana this year as families must work harder and harder to make ends meet. P-EBT WILL HELP FEED INDIANA FAMILIES OVER THE SUMMER Link: Many Indiana families will have an easier time feeding their children this summer. Children are eligible for this temporary nutrition benefit – loaded onto an EBT card that can then be used to purchase food – if they are eligible to receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year or if they are under age six and live in a SNAP household. SNAP BENEFITS INCREASED 15% IN THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT SNAP benefits increased 15% in the maximum amount. Eligible students and families will receive money on a new or existing EBT card to help fill the school meals gap. There is no application process to complete. FEDERAL FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a program of the USDA and administered by the Indiana State Department of Health that provides commodity food that is distributed to local agencies through Indiana’s food banks. Mandatory commodities are provided at a level set by the Farm Bill, adjusted annually for food inflation.FIND YOUR FOOD BANK

Food banks across Indiana saw a significant increase in food distribution this past year. 156 million pounds of food was distributed throughout Indiana, setting a record. Collectively, these 11 member food banks serve all 92 counties in Indiana.
