Stories We Tell dvd movie, Stories We Tell dvd movie, It is rather unusual for a director to shoot a documentary which pivots on her private family life, being the one behind the camera to interview others, her side of story mostly remains elusive, actress-turned-director Sarah Polley’s latest acclaimed documentary about the startling discovery of her biological father is a pure revelation and a wondrous crowd-pleaser. Starts with family members recall her late mother Diane Polley (who passed away from cancer in 1990), an actress, a twice-married woman (with 5 offspring), a freewheeling soul lives everyday to its fullest. The narrative takes a midstream swerve when a secret is slowly to be debunked, after Diane’s death, Sarah and her siblings would find out her liaison with a man who would be Sarah’s biological father when she was in Montreal for a short spell to act in a play. There is a small twist of finding her father, but it is not the keynote of Sarah’s film, like she mentions in the film, what intrigues her the most is the way stories are being told, and how can one get the truth when the only one who is able to reveal what is the absolute truth is long gone? So Sarah glean information and trivia from participants, friends, onlookers and gossipers, the most poignant one is from her father Michael Polley, whose instant response is affecting and genuine, the family bond surmounts bloodline lineage, which is an important criterion elevates human beings as a supreme specie on theearth.
Interposing the interviews with real-life footages and re-enactment of the past story gives the film a distinctive shade of perusing an old photo book or watching a vintage super-8 video playing out. Every family has its own snags and their complications, what makes the Polleys’ so compelling is save the provocative scandal aside, the film actually anatomizes deeper into the source material and transpires itself to a reflective reminder of how one’s life could only be experienced once and any kind of recount is futile, as long as it involves more than 1 person, there is always a murky territory where certain feelings are unfathomable since only myself knows exactly how I feel and what has happened to me, not even soul-mates would have that power. The film is a new entry into my Top 10 films of 2012, and the best documentary feature of 2012 so far, Sarah Polley doubtlessly is courageous and tactful, a firm spearhead on behalf of female counterpart in the male-skewing director sector. This was an awesome movie. Funny and fast paced, it is a well written, directed and cast movie that sticks with you long after its over…the sign of a truly good movie. I give it two thumbs up. Clever and entertaining movie all around!! This is the kind of movie you can recommend to anyone you know. Thought provoking, and in the end, it is a classic feel good movie. It is a comedy-romance that moves quickly and keeps you laughing and guessing all the way through. What move could you ask for in a movie. I only wish they made more movies like this one. I suspect the director/producer of this movie is going to go really far, there isreal talent here.

I knew it was going to be bad, just not that bad. Back in 2009 I saw “Haunting in Connecticut” and to be honest, I don’t remember that much about it. I recall one or two creepy scenes, but nothing to give me nightmares. ‘R.I.P.D.’: Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five) One of the summer’s biggest expensive casualties is this Dark Horse comic adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges as two police officers in the after life fighting undead ghouls. It was directed by Robert Schwentke (who also directed the action films ‘RED’ and ‘FLIGHPLAN’) and written by Phil Hay, Matt Manfredi and David Dobkin. Peter M. Lenkov created the comic book it’s based on and also executive produced the film. The film also co-stars Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louise Parker, Stephanie Szostak, Marisa Miller and James Hong. Oddly both Reynolds and Parker had two big films opening the same weekend (Reynolds also can be heard in the animated family film ‘TURBO’ and Parker reprised her role in the sequel to Schwentke’s ‘RED’). All three films bombed and Reynolds now has a pretty big reputation for constantly delivering box office misfires. That doesn’t mean they’re bad films though and I actually enjoyed ‘R.I.P.D.’ to a certain degree (definitely not an especially goodmovie though).
The film opens with a Boston cop named Nick Walker (Reynolds), having a dispute with his partner, Bobby Hayes (Bacon), over whether or not to turn in gold they found at a recent drug bust. Walker is shot and killed by Hayes during a shootout and is recruited by the R.I.P.D. (Rest In Peace Department) in the afterlife. The R.I.P.D. specializes in catching ‘deados’, which are souls who have refused to leave the land of the living. Walker is teamed with an old U.S. Marshal from the Old West, named Roy Pulsipher (Bridges), while he attempts to track down his old partner and clear his reputation with the love of his life, Julia Walker (Szostak). The biggest complaint I’ve heard about the trailer for the film is how much it resembles the film ‘MEN IN BLACK’ and I have to say, after seeing the film as well, that it very much resembles a ‘MEN IN BLACK’ movie. It’s of course not nearly as good as that campy sci-fi classic but it is better than it’s first sequel (arguably ‘MEN IN BLACK 3’ as well). The fact is the movie is not nearly as bad as a lot of people like to say it is. It’s a lot of fun, funny at times and the visuals are spectacular. It had a budget of approximately 0 million and as a purely visual treat it paid off; as far as the special effects go, plus the women are all super hot (Szostak and Miller are breathtaking in the flick). Watching Reynolds and Bridges together (as an odd couple duo) is a treat as well and it’s funny to see Reynolds being mostly the straight man while Bridges mostly hams it up (Bacon is also once again a great despicable villain). Download. During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok. DOWNLOAD MOVIE | WATCH MOVIE I first saw this back when I was little. If I remember correctly, it was also a big thing when it came out. I even had a backpack with a Velociraptor head sticking out of it for school. It was such an amazing achievement as a movie itself and the film is so wonderfully done that there’s no doubt of why it has held up as long as it has and will remain the best dinosaur film ever created. The dinosaurs in this film look more realistic than any other prehistoric film, or even most movies today that try to pass off crappy CGI has reality. The acting was spectacular, and aside from how wonderful the creatures look and how vicious and exciting they were like no other dinosaur film had had them before, the plot and characters were solid and incredibly entertaining where you didn’t think they would be so amusing. I will have to say again that one really huge reason why most people loved this movie was because of the special effects, but here again, isn’t that an accomplishment in itself? Having your audience enjoy the film because of how realistic and fresh you are able to make it feel and look? I have never seen another movie with better effects than this one, ever. I am sure none of these horrible effects dinosaur movies that have been coming out lately could ever live up to the greatness of Jurassic Park. I am always going to love Jurassic Park for it’s witty, unbelievable maneuvers and incredible screenplay though, as well. It was so properly thought out and executed, where most might have been expecting it to be nothing but high levels of adrenaline rushes with brainless action, which there was pulsating action, it just certainly wasn’t as mindless. Many who dislike Jurassic Park really just have all the same reasons the average movie-goer would have for disliking a film, yet I haven’t heard anyone fully describe and explain, well, what they truly thought were faults with this film, which gives me reason to believe that Jurassic Park is a masterpiece, for I, myself, have no faults with this film, except that I have seen other films that I enjoyed more. . . just a little more.
