FAQ - FAMILY BUILDERS The children are in California’s foster care system. They range in age from birth to 21 years old. They may be part of sibling sets of two, three, four, or more. Children who are in foster care have experienced trauma in their lives, including, but not limited to, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, exposure to drugs and alcohol

before birth.

ADOPTION SF

Adoption SF. Adoption SF is a collaboration between Family Builders and San Francisco County Human Services Agency. We provide recruitment, preparation, training and assessments for families in San Francisco and the other Bay Area counties who are looking to adopt children who are in foster care with San Francisco County. OLDER YOUTH PERMANENCY Older youth permanency project. The vast majority of youth in the foster care system are older than nine years of age. Older youth in foster care are less likely to be adopted or have permanent family relationships, and many age out of the foster care system without a

permanent family.

YOUTH ACCEPTANCE PROJECT The Youth Acceptance Project, works with the families of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) and gender expansive children and youth in foster care. Adoption SF. Adoption SF is a collaboration between Family Builders and San Francisco County Human Services Agency. We provide recruitment, preparation, training and assessments for families in San Francisco and the other Bay Area counties who are looking to adopt children who are in foster care with San Francisco County. OLDER YOUTH PERMANENCY Older youth permanency project. The vast majority of youth in the foster care system are older than nine years of age. Older youth in foster care are less likely to be adopted or have permanent family relationships, and many age out of the foster care system without a

permanent family.

TOOLS FOR EVALUATING THE SOGIE (SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER 5 • Is the agency affirming of LG T resources parents (i.e. through recruitment methods, agency’s website, agency’s environment (pictures, posters, flyers), LG T parent support groups, LG T families REVOLVING DOORS: LGBTQ YOUTH AT THE INTERFACE OF THE CHILD may place them at increased risk for substance use, sex work, and other activities related to daily survival and may make the quest for an integrated identity and sense of home difficult to fulfill (Ragg et

al. 2006).

Children who are in foster care have experienced trauma in their lives, including, but not limited to, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, exposure to drugs and alcohol
