This dehydrated trail version is a great vegetarian adaptation for a backpacking meal that can be prepared in a pot or eaten from individual freezer bags for easy clean-up.. Ingredients for 4 servings: Mix together: GRANDMA’S OATMEAL HERMITS Oatmeal Hermits (aka Grandma Overturf’s Oatmeal Cookies) Put raisins and water in sauce pan and bring to boil. Reduce heat and cook for 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Blend butter and sugar until creamy. Add egg and mix thoroughly. Mix all dry ingredients (except oats) and add to sugar mixture. Add raisins and mix thoroughly. THE MISSOURI OZARK TRAIL: COUNCIL BLUFF LAKE TO BELL The first part of the hike followed the southwest shoreline of the Council Bluff Lake. Our destination was southeast to the Bell Mountain Wilderness, which is located in the St. Francois Mountains. Elevations ranged from about 900 feet to 1702 feet at Bell Mountain. Most of the hike was in a verdant forest of oak, hickory and pines and theMIDWEST US HIKING

HIKING THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL FROM FRONT ROYAL TO HARPER’S Despite rain and occasional thunderstorms, our week-long hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail in the Shenandoah Valley area was greatly enjoyed by nine Central Indiana Wilderness Club (CIWC) backpackers. The hike was to start just north of Front Royal, Virginia and culminate five days and 50 miles later in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, the home of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC). BRUNSWICK STEW FOR BACKPACKING MEAL (OR DINNER Spread 1 ½ cups of stew onto silicon sheets and dehydrate at 155 degrees for 12 hours or until completely dehydrated. Place each serving in Zip Lock quart freezer bags. Store in freezer until time for the trip. At camp boil water and just cover stew mixture. Add 1/2 tablespoon olive oil to each bag and let sit 3-5 minutes untilre-hydrated
