National. Budget 2021-22 announcements. The 2021–22 Budget builds on initiatives to guarantee reliable and affordable energy. The measures will stimulate jobs and reduce emissions without imposing new costs on households, businesses or the economy. POWERING COMMUNITIES PROGRAM The Powering Communities Program will provide $10.2 million in grants to help not-for-profit community organisations reduce energy use, improve energy productivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The program aims to save energy and reduce power bills through:ENERGY MINISTERS
In May 2020 the Prime Minister announced the cessation of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), including the former COAG Energy Council. The COAG Energy Council has been replaced by the Energy National Cabinet Reform Committee (ENCRC) and the Energy Ministers’ Meeting (EMM). These are Ministerial forums for the Commonwealth, states and territories and New Zealand to work together SOLAR REBATES FOR SMALL BUSINESS Acknowledgement of Country. Our department recognises the First Peoples of this nation and their ongoing connection to culture and country. We acknowledge First Nations Peoples as the Traditional Owners, Custodians and Lore Keepers of the world's oldest living culture and pay respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. BILATERAL ENERGY AND EMISSIONS REDUCTION AGREEMENTS The Australian Government is developing a series of bilateral energy and emissions reduction agreements with state and territory governments that will improve energy reliability and affordability across the country and support the transition of energy markets to lower emissions technologies. CUTTING ENERGY COSTS FOR HOTELS Small and medium hotels across Australia are receiving support from the Australian Government to cut their energy costs. The $10.2 million Hotel Energy Uplift Program will enable operators to invest in their business and employ more staff and tradespeople. WHOLESALE ELECTRICITY PRICES AT NINE-YEAR LOW Australians are continuing to access low-cost energy with another report confirming electricity prices are still falling. The Australian Energy Regulator's Wholesale Markets Quarterly Q1 2021 found average electricity prices across the National Electricity Market (NEM) are at lowest first quarter levels since 2012. Prices in all regions were lower than expected from January to March, ranging 3. IMPLEMENT ENERGY SAVINGS 3. Implement energy savings | energy.gov.au. 3. Implement energy savings. AUSTRALIAN ENERGY UPDATE 2020 The Australian Energy Statistics is the authoritative and official source of energy statistics for Australia to support decision making, and help understand how our energy supply and use is changing. It is updated each year and consists of detailed historical energy consumption, production and trade statistics and balances. This edition contains the latest data for 2018-19. ELECTRICITY GENERATION Total electricity generation in Australia in 2019 was around 265 TWh. This figure includes all electricity generation, including by power plants and generation for own use by businesses and households. Fossil fuels contributed 79% of total electricity generation in 2019, including coal (56%), gas (21%) and oil (2%). Renewables contributed 21% of total electricity generation in 2019 ENERGY EFFICIENT COMMUNITIES PROGRAM The Energy Efficient Communities Program will deliver $40 million in grants to help businesses and community groups lower their energy bills and reduce emissions. PROHIBITING ENERGY MARKET MISCONDUCT The Treasury Laws Amendment (Prohibiting Energy Market Misconduct) Act 2019 (the Big Stick legislation) came into effect on 10 June 2020. The new legislation forces energy companies to put the interest of their customers first, by requiring them to pass on savings to consumers when there is a sustained and substantial reduction in the costs it faces to supply electricity. AUSTRALIAN ENERGY SECTOR CYBER SECURITY Protecting Australia’s energy sector from cyber threats is of national importance. These protections maintain secure and reliable energy supplies thereby supporting our economic stability and national security. The Australian Energy Sector Cyber Security Framework (AESCSF) program is an annual cyber security assessment across Australia’s energy sector. RENEWABLE POWER INCENTIVES Small-scale renewable systems that may be eligible for certificates include: solar photovoltaic (PV) panels. wind turbines. hydro systems. solar water heaters, and. air source heat pumps. Owners have 2 options for receiving benefit for their STCs: Assigning them to an agent, usually the system installer, in exchange for a discount or delayed HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEM REBATES Overview. The ActewAGL Heating and cooling upgrade program provides rebates of up to $2000 to ACT residents to upgrade old inefficient appliances in their homes to new energy-efficient appliances.. Ducted reverse cycle air conditioning. Upgrade your ducted gas heating system to a ducted reverse cycle air conditioning and save $2000 on the purchase and installation costs, and a 2 year $412 MILLION OF NEW INVESTMENT IN CARBON CAPTURE PROJECTS Acknowledgement of Country.
