NEW PROGRAM AIMS TO MONITOR CYBERBULLYING The Michigan section of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee has created a program to aid victims of online bullying. These actions were taken in response to recent trends of growing issues of cyberbullying. By classifying cyberbullying as a civil rights violations, they hope to slow the growth and impact of cyberbullying. “With an advancement in technology, we, too, haveseen an

We know that in order to achieve our goal, we must do it through the people. Online activism involves people taking positive actions online. That means being positive, helping someone out who needs it, reporting WHY HAS CYBERBULLYING BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE? Cyberbullying is an increasing problem since an increasing number of kids are using and have embraced interactions via computers and cell phones. Two-thirds of youth go online every day to work, keep in touch with friends, play games, learn about celebrities, share their digital creations, and much more. 'TRADITIONAL' BULLYING Although similar to “traditional” bullying in terms of form and technique, cyberbullying is immensely different from “old school” bullying and can be even more devastating. For starters, victims in many cases do not know who the bully is, or why they are being bullied. Cyberbullies hide behind a computer screen and maybe even behind a false identity so that they will not be discovered NEW CYBER BULLYING LAW IN OREGON TAKES EFFECT THIS MONTH On July 1st, Oregon added six new state laws to its list of regulations. One of them protects students from harassment at school and in cyber space. At the Medford School District office, administrators began making changes to their policy handbook a year ago.
