WASHINGTON PARK ZOO
The Washington Park Zoo founded in 1928, encompasses 15 acres on a hilly sand dune and located near the southern shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. The zoo exhibits more than 90 species originating throughout the world. The animals are exhibited in natural settings, surrounded by botanical plantings. Among the exhibits are Bengal tigers, Cotton top tamarins, American alligators, Grizzly bear PERMITS, LICENSES & INSPECTIONS Permits, Licenses & Inspections. Permits enable the city to enforce local ordinances and provisions of the Indiana Building Code. These ordinances and codes provide a minimum standard for protection of life, health, property, and public welfare. Below you will findvarious forms and
DEPARTMENT OF WATER WORKS The Department of Water Works provides thousands of gallons of fresh, clean water each day to residents and businesses in Michigan City. Water supplied by the Department of Water Works exceeds existing and proposed water quality standards established by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Water PollutionControl Board.
HOUSING AUTHORITY
The Michigan City Housing Authority is currently closed to the public until further notice. This includes the Lakeland Estate Office as well. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employeesduring

Private parties are $125 for two hour session (maximum 200 people). Parking permits are available for private parties at a cost of $10 for 10 permits. These must be passed out to your guests prior to entering Washington Park. Three members are appointed by the Mayor; and two are appointed by City Council. Salaries paid to appointees are not paid by City funds. The fireworks can be viewed from any of the City’s 1.9 miles of beachfront, in Washington Park or in the City’s Uptown Arts District. No glass containers. No activities allowed which present danger or risk to beach patrons. No unauthorized vehicles on beach. No animals or pets allowed.
