DOOM TEXT GENERATOR
Doom and Strife use hardcoded graphics for menu text, so they don't really have a "menu font" — the ones used here are from GZDoom, which reverse engineered and extended them. They were always a hasty jam hack that I never liked; there was a quick screen fade when going through a door, there was barely any notion of being “in a level” vs not, and the game even counted the fucking hearts in a level on the fly the first time you entered it. DOOM SCALE / FUZZY NOTEPAD The light blue boxes are the collision boxes; the dark blue boxes are Doomguy’s apparent visible size. I’m using his waist rather than his shoulders, because most people’s (or at least, my) shoulders are not too much wider than their hips — however Doomguy is a beefcake carved out of pure muscle and doors would not be designed for him.. It seems as though all the architecture in Doom THE CONTROLLER PATTERN IS AWFUL (AND OTHER OO HERESY This is the controller pattern. At first glance, this might seem perfectly reasonable: there are, clearly, multiple methods here. I ask once more: what is a LoginController object, and what does it do?. I can tell you what it does: it handles various auth-related pagerequests.

That’s very convenient, because it means I can “dilate the world” — expand all the walls by 16 units in both directions, while shrinking the player to a single point.That expansion eliminates narrow gaps and leaves a map of everywhere the player’s center is allowed to be. DOOM SCALE / FUZZY NOTEPAD The viewport is 41 pixels above the ground. Doomguy’s maximum step height is 24, which is actually fairly large, almost half his height. Doomguy can balance on a ledge of any width. The vast majority of Doom’s wall textures are 64×128. A few larger textures are 128×128, and a handful of very large outdoor textures are 256×128. PERLIN NOISE / FUZZY NOTEPAD Perlin noise is continuous — there are no abrupt changes. Even if you use lots and lots of octaves, no matter how jittery it may look, if you zoom in enough, you’ll still have a smooth curve.
