The competition is open to every student who is or wants to be part of the Eco-Schools, YRE or LEAF programmes as well as registered International Schools. Students from outside the network can also submit entries and receive a certificate of participation, but the entry cannot be awarded.

Litter is waste in the wrong place. Litter comes from different sources, and different people. For instance, it may be intentional litter by motorists discarding litter out of windows, pedestrians dropping litter on the street or footpaths, or people on picnics and at other public space events. ECO-SCHOOLS IS THE LARGEST GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS PROGRAMME – IT STARTS IN THE CLASSROOM AND EXPANDS TO THE COMMUNITY BY ENGAGING THE NEXT GENERATION IN ACTION-BASED LEARNING. _The programme’s greatest achievement is arguably the fact that it produces generation after generation of sustainably minded, environmentally conscious people. These individuals will carry the behavioural patterns they uptake under the auspices of Eco-Schools with them through life, in turn teaching the next generation the habits to make a difference._ -------------------------
