It’s a great option if you have at least a 4 hour layover. Best of all– its free. This year, I booked a paid tour because our arrival didn’t coincide with any of the tours offered. But I highly recommend this service as a great introduction to the sights andsounds of Istanbul.

Slightly over budget at 2.1 million Won, it is large for off-post housing. 4 bed/ 2 bath, 2 elevators. There is an amazing view from the 26th floor of a building close enough to downtown to enjoy. But without the traffic woes. The way this apartment was designed gave us views (and light) from 3 sides. DUFFELBAGSPOUSE TRAVEL TIPS PCS/ MOVING WITH THE MILITARY HOME IS WHERE THE ARMY SENDS US First of all, the military has taken us around the world. PCS /Military moves are different from civilian moves. And both are different than travel. I am a military spouse blogging about travel and military life. Multiple PCS moves have me hanging and rehanging my pictures– on base and on the economy. Consequently, I spend a lot of time looking for the best coffee shop with WI-FI. And just when I find a job, friends and a good hair braider to keep my twists fresh– it’s time to move. FREELANCE WRITER AND BLOGGER Being a military spouse gives me a unique perspective. As a freelance writer, cultural observer and blogger, I do more than scratch the surface. Ultimately peeling back the layers to expose the good stuff. I’ve written more than 300 articles in a collection called Travel in300 Words .
Travel is making real connections– understanding the nature of the people and places we visit. Travel is fun–it’s a conduit for learning, wisdom and making the most of our time on Earth. MILITARY SPOUSE AND THE MILITARY LIFESTYLE Multiple military moves taught me the importance of keeping a smile on my face. And one in my heart too. Enjoying all the stops, detours and roadblocks of travel is exciting. Hopefully, this blog is also entertaining, informative and inspires you to travel too. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is addictive. But some of the best times are found in a glass or two of wine. Hence, we talk a lot about winehere too.
RECREATIONAL TRAVEL
We’ve traveled to Europe, the United States, the Caribbean, and Asia — most recently to China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Malta (solo trip). We’ve hiked the CinqueTerra ,
climbed the Great Wall of China and ran the Paris Half Marathon.
And that’s just a few of our many adventures. Whether you drive across town, across state lines or across the big pond, there is something valuable to be learned. There is something worthwhile to be explored. And there is always something delicious to be eaten. There’s always a lesson to be learned. Even veteran travelers make mistakes… and that’s in here too. MILITARY LIFESTYLE AND TRAVEL TIPS I am an Army Brat, but I had no idea what saying “I do” really meant to a career soldier. But I do now. I love being a freelance writer and blogger. And as a military (Army) spouse for more than 20 years, I’ve been fortunate to raise two kids. One is a sailor and the other spent a few years in the Air Force. I have created 9 homes (on base and off base) while my husband deployed 7 times.WHAT TO EXPECT
Every week you will find posts on how I’ve not only survived but managed to thrive in an environment that is constantly changing– and not always conducive to a happy and cohesive family. You’ll also see that I am not complaining or whining. Serving our country is an honor. And so is serving my soldier, sailor, and an airman. RESOURCES, TIPS, AND ADVICE Click on the red search button to the right to find articles about our travels.
