PERIODONTICS OVERVIEW Periodontics is the dental specialty that focuses on preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the gum tissue. After graduating from dental school, a periodontist spends several years in a residency program, studying the mechanisms of periodontal (gum) inflammation and effective treatments for the condition. BLOG - DR. COLIN RICHMAN May 31. 2016. Whether you want subtle or extreme changes, our team at Dr. Colin Richman Dentistry can enhance your smile in a variety of ways through cosmetic dentistry. Through cosmetic dentistry, your teeth can be re-shaped, brightened, bonded and more. Dr. Richman uses a wide range of tools to perform a variety of procedures. Thefollowing is.

This can occur as a result of periodontal disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis), the natural aging process, or abrasive habits when it comes to brushing the teeth. HANDOUTS, CASES & TEMPLATES Chronic disease anywhere in the body is insidious, thus advanced symptoms may only appear late after significant damage has occurred. Warning signs of periodontal (gum) disease include: - Redness, tenderness, pain, swollen gums - Bleeding while brushing, flossing or biting into an apple - Insufficient long term flossing over a lifetime - Receding gums, frequently described ‘getting long in COSMETIC/ESTHETIC PERIODONTICS In a gum graft procedure, a periodontist removes tissue from a donor site and attaches it to the gums to extend the gumline or add volume to the gum tissue. Donor tissue is most often removed from the roof of the mouth, or some patients choose to use tissue from a tissue bankfor the graft.
GUM RECESSION TREATMENTS The gums are bound firmly in place by microscopic ligaments or fibers that play an important role in holding the gums in position. When the gums and the supporting fibers are damaged or otherwise unhealthy, the gumline can begin to wear away, in a condition that is referred to as gum recession. This results in the exposure of the roots of the teeth and bone loss in the corresponding location.
