SUMMER 2019 QOTD #75 Posted by harshad_harshad4
This is the last question in ‘Summer 2019 QoTD’. In Western countries, the X are usually written at a right angle to the direction of the text. Users from all around the world created better X by taking advantage of the local syllabary. In Japan, using the Katakana character set, it is possible to create X which can be understood without tilting one’s head to the left. These type of X are called Y. Y entered the Western culture most probably through the online anime discussion forums. Thus, Y are also referred to as ‘anime-styled X’. Id X and Y. (No part points) Samyak and I really enjoyed setting these questions for the past 2 and a half months. We hope you people also had a lot of fun answering them. Props to all the people who regularly visit the blog and answer the questions! See you all again in the month of December for ‘Winter 2019 QoTD’. All the best for the year ahead! : -)Advertisements

A is the name of an online scientific repository. Contrary to popular belief, the letter ‘X’ featuring in A is actually the Greek alphabet ‘Chi’ whose pronunciation is like ‘ch’. Along similar lines, the typesetting software B used for technical and scientific documentation is often mispronounced owing to the similar confusion in the pronunciation of the same Greek alphabet at the endof its name.

It is common knowledge that the grand slams are held where they are because Australia, France, Britain and USA were the first four countries to win the Davis Cup. The X Index is published by _The Economist_ as an informal way of measuring the purchasing power parity (PPP) between two currencies. It provides a test of the extent to which market exchange rates result in goods costing the same in different countries. There is also a Y index which is inspired from the X index, but the key difference between the two indices is that the Y Index focuses solely on Africa. This is because the X index is not as applicable to Africa since Z (which manufactures X) does not have much presence there, whereas Y chains operate in almost 20 countries across theAfrican continent.
As a hint, Z has lost its X trademark in the Europe Union, earlier this year, in a legal battle with an Irish competitor.Id X, Y and Z.
