LILAC POEMS
A wealth of lilacs have I here, Their mystic whispers stir my ear. Their lovely fragrance fills my heart, As memories their blooms impart. When I was but a little child, A lilac bush, untrimmed and wild, Delighted me with joy untold, Where shone the sun of purest gold, I pulled the clustered lilac spray.POEMS ABOUT GAMES
With a thin little twisted knee, They sat in the yellow sunlight, Out under the maple-tree; And the game that they played I'll tell you, Just as it was told to me. It was Hide-and-Go-Seek they were playing, Though you'd never have known it to be—. With an old, old, old, old lady, And a boy with a twisted knee.POEMS ABOUT FATE
Superiority to Fate by Emily Dickinson. We never know we go, — when we are going by Emily Dickinson. A Man by Emily Dickinson. Fate Defied by Adelaide Crapsey. Fate by Francis Bret Harte. Resolution by Ruby Archer. Destiny by Thomas Bailey Aldrich. One Life by Laurence Dunbar.Invictus by
THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BY SAM WALTER FOSS And weep with the strangers that moan, Nor live in my house by the side of the road. Like a man who dwells alone. Let me live in my house by the side of the road. Where the race of men go by—. They are good, they are bad, they are weak, they are strong, Wise, foolish—so
POEMS ABOUT GOSSIP
When gossips' talk and traitor's scheming, And jealous fiends on evil bent, With basest vices unredeeming, Brand the names of the innocent; When hope's bright sun seems nearly setting, The future dim and cloudy lies, And you more tired of life are getting, And tears of sorrow dim the eyes; Cheer up, take courage, do not falter, THE GOOD OLD DAYS: 31 POEMS ABOUT A SIMPLER TIME The Old Farm by O. Henry. The Old Barn by Madison Cawein. The Stack Behind the Barn by Sir Charles George Douglas Roberts. The Old Homestead by William Henry Venable. The Old Fire-Place by John S. Mohler. The Old-Time Fire by Samuel Harden. The Old Hickory Wood by Evander A. Crewson. The Old Cane Mill by Nellie Gregg Tomlinson. MEMORIAL DAY BY ANNETTE WYNNE Memorial Day. Is it enough to think to-day. Of all our brave, then put away. The thought until a year has sped? Is this full honor for our dead? Is it enough to sing a song. And deck a grave; and all year long. Forget the brave who died that we. Might keep our great landproud and free?

Sauntering hither on listless wings, Careless vagabond of the sea, Little thou heedest the surf that sings, The bar that thunders, the shale that rings, —. Give me to keep thy company. Little thou hast, old friend, that's new, Storms and wrecks are old things to thee; Sick am I of these changes, too;POEMS ABOUT CLOTHES
Brother Clothes, observe the sun! Two full hours ago, believe me, was this glorious day begun!" Piped the cap from off the washstand, "Oh, the sky is blue and red! "What a joy to look up at it from the top of Johnny's head!" Groaned the shoes beneath the bureau, "Ah, the grassis cool and sweet!
SAILING POEMS
Visor of mist o'er the sun is drawn. But the sailors shout as they haul away, And merrily sing, for it's naught care they.BIRCH TREE POEMS
Rippling through thy branches goes the sunshine, Among thy leaves that palpitate forever; Ovid in thee a pining Nymph had prisoned, The soul once of some tremulous inland river, Quivering to tell her woe, but, ah! dumb, dumb forever! While all the forest, witched with slumberous moonshine, Holds up its leaves in happy, happy silence,POEMS ABOUT IRELAND
Gerald Griffin. Few landscapes on a calm and sunny evening present a scene of sweet and solemn beauty exceeding that of the little island of Scattery, or Iniscatha, near the mouth of the Shannon, with its lofty round tower and the ruins of its numerous churches, said to have been founded by St. Sinon or Senanus, one of the brightest ornaments of the ancient Irish church. THE TREE BY BJØRNSTJERNE BJØRNSON The Tree. The Tree's early leaf-buds were bursting their brown; "Shall I take them away?" said the Frost, sweeping down. "No, leave them alone. Till the blossoms have grown," Prayed the Tree, while he trembled from rootlet to crown. The Tree bore his blossoms, and all the birds sung; "Shall I take them away?" THE VALUE OF LITTLE THINGS BY WILLIAM CUTTER The Value of Little Things. by William Cutter. What if the little rain should say, "So small a drop as I. Can ne'er refresh the thirsty earth, I'll tarry in the sky!" What if a shining beam of noon. Should in its fountain stay, Because its feeble light alone. MAUD MULLER BY JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER Maud Muller. Raked the meadow sweet with hay. Of simple beauty and rustic health. The mock-bird echoed from his tree. For something better than she had known. Smoothing his horse's chestnut mane. Through the meadow across the road. On her feet so bare, and her tattered gown. "Thanks!" A wealth of lilacs have I here, Their mystic whispers stir my ear. Their lovely fragrance fills my heart, As memories their blooms impart. Against the cliffs, that fence the waves, And down his mellow glory streams, Through narrow clefts and widening caves. JANUARY POEMS
January. by Rebecca Hey. Keen blows the bitter spirit of the North, And, like a warrior foil'd, with powerless beam. The sun eyes wistfully the frost-bound stream, As if he long'd, though vainly, to call forth. His by-gone strength, that he might deck the earth. In all her summer beauty, and set free.SEABIRD POEMS
Sauntering hither on listless wings, Careless vagabond of the sea, Little thou heedest the surf that sings, The bar that thunders, the shale that rings, —. Give me to keep thy company. Little thou hast, old friend, that's new, Storms and wrecks are old things to thee; Sick am I of these changes, too;POEMS ABOUT SPACE
Stolen out of the ruins of Day, Grows the pale bridge of the Milky Way, Built by the architect Night. Dim with shadows, and bright with stars, Hung like gold lights on invisible bars. Stirred by the wind's spent breath, Rising on cloud-shapen pillars of grey, Perfect it stands, like a tangible way.POEMS ABOUT IRELAND

SWALLOW POEMS
O sweet stray sister, O shifting swallow, The heart's division divideth us. Thy heart is light as a leaf of a tree; But mine goes forth among sea-gulfs hollow. To the place of the slaying of Itylus, The feast of Daulis, the Thracian sea. O swallow, sister, O rapid swallow, I pray thee sing not a little space. Of a sorrow that was to be mine, In a land that then was the future, But now is the present time; And I thought of my former thinking. Of the judgment day to be; But sitting alone with my conscience. WEATHER POEMS
Sweetly, sweetly falling, So it chaseth the cloud away, So it waketh the lovely day. This is the way sunshine comes down, Sweetly, sweetly falling. This is the way rainbow comes down, Brightly, brightly falling, So it shineth across the sky, Making fair the heavens onhigh.

No lovelier robber infests the streams, Where water runs or fish school gleams. Where'er sea-beaches far expand, By shingle-banks and stretch of sand; Where'er o'erleaning woodlands shade. The clear brook twinkling thro' the glade, O bird rapacious! is thy haunt, On trees that o'er the currents slant.BIRCH TREE POEMS
Rippling through thy branches goes the sunshine, Among thy leaves that palpitate forever; Ovid in thee a pining Nymph had prisoned, The soul once of some tremulous inland river, Quivering to tell her woe, but, ah! dumb, dumb forever! While all the forest, witched with slumberous moonshine, Holds up its leaves in happy, happy silence, MAUD MULLER BY JOHN GREENLEAF WHITTIER Maud Muller. Raked the meadow sweet with hay. Of simple beauty and rustic health. The mock-bird echoed from his tree. For something better than she had known. Smoothing his horse's chestnut mane. Through the meadow across the road. On her feet so bare, and her tattered gown. "Thanks!" HOME PAGE | DISCOVERPOETRY.COMPOEMSCONTACT USTEACHING POETRY December Poems. Discover December Poems here.. Fall Poems.
