CYCLES - Dimitri de Perrot & dj sniff Zurich University of the Arts – ZHdK Zurich – Switzerland5.12.2019
Dimitri de Perrot & dj sniff: CYCLESSound performance
Dimitri de Perrot and dj sniff (Japan) come together to perform “Cycles” - an improvisational sound performance that moves between found-sounds and sonic textures manipulated on the turntable and various electronic devices. The playback of a record is not only the re-tracing of music or a past event, but is also an engraving of a new moment on the listener’s memory of the space and time of the playback. Through turntablist techniques and manipulations of sounds through looping and mixing, de Perrot and sniff address this moment where the past repeats itself in cycles but slightly different at every iteration. As sound structures emerge and the dialog between the two musicians develop notions of representation associate with the sound media collapse and what is left is only a presence that could be described as the “now.”dj sniff
dj sniff (Takuro Mizuta Lippit) is a musician and curator in the field of experimental electronic arts and improvised music. His musical work builds upon a distinct practice that combines DJing, instrument design, and free improvisation. His collaborations include Evan Parker, Otomo Yoshihide, Martin Tetreault, Paul Hubweber, Tarek Atoui, and Senyawa. After completing his master’s at NYU ITP in 2004, he was Artistic Director of STEIM in Amsterdam between 2007-2012 and Visiting Assistant Professor at the School of Creative Media City University Hong Kong between 2012-2017. He is now based in Tokyo and is Co-Director of AMF (Asian Meeting Festival) - a festival that aims to bring together experimental music practices in Asia.http://www.zhdk.ch

Klang—Moor—Schopfe Gais – Switzerland30.8.–8.9.2019
Dimitri de Perrot – KLIRR new creation for the marshes and hills of Gais in Appenzell The Audio Festival Klang-Moor-Schopfe in Gais, Appenzell takes place in a moor area where artistic positions are shown in solitary barns: installations, concerts and performances. For this special setting, Dimitri de Perrot created KLIRR, a new composition about counting. If you count, you always also break up a „whole“ and begin to divide and put it in order. The beginning of classifications and appropriations and commitments. Also possibly the beginning of a „standardization“ and prescribed thought process, and the end of the speechless and innumerable connections to „what’s out there“ – what we hear, see, feel and sense. https://klangmoorschopfe.ch Photo credits © Studio DdP Credits: Idea, composition and recordings: Dimitri de Perrot. TRIFF (Premiere)
Le Centquatre – Paris6.10.–12.11.2018
Dimitri de Perrot – TRIFF A visual and tonal intervention for Le Centquatre Paris Photo credits © Studio DdP The Hall d'Aubervilliers is a central entrance hall of the 104 in Paris and functions as a nerve centre and meeting place for the venue. Thorough a visual and tonal intervention, Dimitri de Perrot aimed to break through the allegedly well-rehearsed processes of this location. The result was a playful, curious and new look at the everyday happenings including the space, its embedded architectural and the human elements within. Through a stage installation in the heart of the 104, the Swiss artist and composer Dimitri de Perrot developed a site-specific sound work inspired by his impressions of the city. In a provisionally constructed studio, sound, rhythm and story material from the 104 and its surroundings were collected and registered. The on-site studio functioned as his "guest room", where he met random acquaintances and invited guests from the quarter and the city. The process created - from guest to guest, a musical documentary of a living space: From the place, for the place. "I am interested in the postmodern accelerated city life, which seeks a path through the hectic everyday life of mundane chores in a flow of intermediate moments, transitions and supposedly small events - from one task to the next, from one question to another - rhythm, stress and exhaustion. Personal stories as well as sonic musical performances of the guests in the temporary studio in the Hall d'Aubervilliers formed the basis of my composition for the 104th. It is in this sense a cultural property consisting of memories and hopes through sound and song." Dimitri de Perrot, 2018www.104.fr

UNLESS (Premiere)
Hong Kong Arts Centre / Hysan PlaceHong Kong
13.7.–24.7.2018
Dimitri de Perrot - UNLESSNEW CREATION
Premier the 13th of July at Hong Kong Arts Centre / Hysan Place "UNLESS" is a sounding sculpture placed in the large entrance hall of Hysan Place – a historic shopping mall in the centre of Causeway Bay – Hong Kong. “Unless” immerses a walk-through stage with a musical composition and cinematographic sound design that gives the Atrium a staged plane. The visitor is invited to participate in the emerging of the moment: walk through or sit down, watch and listen to its surrounding. An inspiring moment of slowing down the everydaysfast pace.
The entrance hall of Hysan Place is a central meeting place in the neighbourhood and as such a place of passage and chance encounters. While history and stories tell of great deeds and events, life consists above all of interim moments, transitions and small situations on the way; from one place to another, from one question to the next. "UNLESS" turns it’s attention to the seeming triviality of the ordinary that we may lose in the hustle of everyday life and that we tend to ignore or forget - the dynamic moment, the subtle and the diverse habitat of the self in the now and here. "UNLESS" premiered the 13th of July 2018 at the Hysan Place in Hong Kong within Cultural Masseur, the Multi-Arts Festival of the Hong KongArts Centre.

STRANDGUT & BLUMEN (Premiere)Museum Tinguely
Basel – Switzerland26.2.–19.3.2017
Dimitri de Perrot – Strandgut & Blumen Strandgut und Blumen (Flotsam, Jetsam and Flowers) was presented at the Museum Tinguely from 26 February to 19 March 2017. Set up amidst the on-going exhibition at the time, it created a sound installation that entered into a musical dialogue with its surroundings. Noises, reverberations and overtones combined to form soundscapes that populated the room with new protagonists and coalesced into a total composition in which Tinguely’s Méta-Harmonies played a part. The stage of Strandgut und Blumen, which visitors to the museum were welcome to enter and explore, was a collage pieced together out of elements recycled from previous exhibition projects at the Museum Tinguely. Growing out of this like flowers were the spherical loudspeakers that repeatedly immersed the island landscape in a blanket of sound. The initial spark for the installation was supplied by Myousic, a stage play that since June 2016 has been touring theatres in Europe. In it, de Perrot played with the unfulfilled expectations of an audience attending an unusual “radio play”, in which they, too, become actors, solely by virtue of their presence. A most unusual piece, it managed entirely without real actors and told its story through the sound alone. Perrot.Link:

Dimitri de Perrot – MYOUSIC with Julian Sartorius (drums) MYOUSIC is a scenic sculpture for theatre spaces without actors on stage. It gives the leading role to sound. In shifting the familiar hierarchy of image and sound in the theatre, this piece extends sensory experiences and stimulates a dialogue about established ways of thinking and reaction.
