A BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH A HARD LIFE BY GEORGE J. BLESI He was a white man about the same size as me maybe ten years older. A tight black stocking hat was pulled to the rim of purple aviator sunglasses. The skin on face his was a deep brown, cracked and scarred. He was wearing a puffy, black winter jacket on a beautiful fall morning. “I’m George,” I said sticking out my right hand. THE UNIMAGINABLE BY C. M. CHAPMAN http://www.dimeshowreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Unimaginable-Raw-Read-no-beep.mp3. The Unimaginable wakes in a dense purple dawn after an uneasy sleep. HAROLD EXAMINER BY ROBERT MORGAN FISHER Kenny was ten, I was nine. We crawled through a farmer’s field across the street, mashing down stalks, pretending our forearms were threshers. Sometimes we’d lie back in the paddock, stalk of alfalfa clenched between our teeth, contemplating the sky. Sometimes I’d think: God’s beard is a cloud. CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS BY FREDERICK K. FOOTE October 27, 1962, 10:15AM. I hang up the phone. I turn and watch my mother making coffee and toast. She is murdering Ray Charles’ I Can’t stop loving you.Damn, I just wish I could stop listening toyou, Mom.
UNRELIABLE ANGELS BY PATRICIA WENTZEL I admit it. I am more than a skeptic. I am a naysayer. I do not believe in guardian angels. But I am clearly outnumbered. A STRANGER BY CLIF TRAVERS A Stranger by Clif Travers. October 12, 1956. R.I.P. I ain’t much for religion, but even I know the story of the apple. It’s all about sin and temptation and how a snake talked Eve into eating one, even though God told her not to. It’s a good one, but I don’t need nofiction.

ETERNAL LOVE FOREVER BY CAROLYN GEDULD My eternal love forever began at a poetry slam in high school. Shyly, you approached the stage at one end of the old school gym, the veneered hardwood floor creaking beneath your feet. ORPHANED LIES BY MARCO ETHERIDGE Orphaned Lies by Marco Etheridge. Charlie Fuller eased his rig off of the interstate to a rendezvous with a dead friend. The sun was westering over the Colombia River, but still high above the rim of the Cascades. Charlie squinted into the glare as he swung the pickup into the parking lot of the overlook. He rolled his truck to the far end of SILHOUETTED BY B. A.
