EIGHT MILE ROAD
Eight Mile Road was originally a dirt road that was designated as M-102 in 1928. Gradually, the road was widened and extended. Currently it exists in most areas as an eight-lane road, spanning more than 20 miles across metropolitan Detroit. Its more popular name is derived from the Detroit area’s Mile Road System. WILLOW RUN | DETROIT HISTORICAL SOCIETY Willow Run is an Albert Kahn-designed World War II bomber plant near Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was constructed in 1941 by the Ford Motor Company for the mass production of the B-24 Liberator military aircraft. The U.S. government contributed $200 million to the project.Originally 975 acres of farmland owned by Henry Ford, the site was developed by the Ford Motor Company into MEIER’S WONDERFUL CLOCK It took Louis Meier, Sr. twelve years to build his clock. Its hand-carved mahogany base, detailed glass clock face and intricate mechanisms made it a Detroit marvel when it debuted in his jewelry store at East Grand Boulevard and Gratiot Avenue in 1904.The clock features a master clock and twelve smaller clocks displaying the time in major world cities.HOW TO CONTACT US
