Welcome to the DC Voting Rights Lesson Plan, developed my DC Vote in collaboration with teachers, students and parents from DC. We have provided for you a menu of options-pick and choose what materials you wish to use in the classroom. Customize your own lesson plan to fit your students and meet your needs.DC VOTE
DC Vote is a 501 (c)(3) educational and advocacy organization dedicated to securing full voting representation in Congress for the residents of the District of Columbia. We've launched a national public awareness campaign to educate constituents about DC's denial of a vote in Congress. We're visiting states where Senators are filibustering the DC Voting Rights Act and keeping the dream alive TREAT AMERICAN CITIZENS LIKE AMERICAN CITIZENS Vice President Joe Biden is right: There should be two senators from the District of Columbia, not to mention at least one voting member of the U.S. House. Americans living in the U.S. capital, in other words, should have the basic rights of citizenship that they are currentlydenied.
YOUR VOTE DOESN'T COUNT IN D.C. The initiative stayed on the ballot, and more than 100,000 D.C. residents voted on it. But D.C.'s Board of Elections couldn't count, certify, or release the results of the vote.
