ABOUT | THE CONWAY SCHOOL The mission of the Conway School is to explore, develop, practice, and teach design of the land that is ecologically and socially sustainable. The intention is to: provide graduates with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to practice planning, design, andmanagement

Applications are accepted year-round; applications received after July 31 are moved to the next year’s potential project list. Small-scale site design projects are completed by the end of the calendar year, and a printed copy delivered in mid-January. Small-scale design projects are offered on a sliding scale: $650, $1,000, and $1,300. A founding member of the Portland, Maine, chapter of the slow food movement, he recently purchased a small farm in Pownal, where he intends to collect, raise, and experiment with rare foods. Stafford unsubsidized loans can fund up to $20,500 toward the cost of graduate education. THE CONWAY SCHOOL’S COLLABORATIVE DECISION-MAKING MODEL The Conway School is a non-profit independent institution with a board of trustees consisting of a minimum of seven but more typically twelve to sixteen volunteers, with at least two Conway alums. The board has legal fiduciary oversight of the school’s finances and is responsible for monitoring whether the activities of the employees are consistent with the school’s mission.PLANNED GIVING

STAFF | THE CONWAY SCHOOL Kate Cholakis ’11 teaches Ecological Design at the Conway School, and also handles admissions and communications for the school.Kate is a landscape designer who created her own business after graduating from the Conway School. The Conway School does not require or accept GRE scores or other standardized testing scores. Conway provides community design and planning services under contract and at cost, primarily for municipal and non-profit organizations.
