To preface this review, I want to mention that I am a young, white, woman, and I am working every day to become more awake (or ‘woke’, as the youth say), so I do have some bias when reviewing this novel. PARASITE – A REALISTIC DRAMA, MYSTERY AND COMEDY IN ONE I had the chance to watch Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” a few days ago, and since, the movie has been stuck in my head, with so many thoughts that keep popping up about it. “13 REASONS WHY”: GOOD INTENTIONS AMID MULTIPLE DISASTERS Within the past couple of weeks, Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” had garnered both praise and critical condemnation from many watchers. The plot, focusing on the ’13 reasons why’ a high school girl, Hannah Baker, commits suicide, is based off the book by Jay Asher. “FINDING DORY” JUST KEEPS SWIMMING Back in high school, I remember watching “Finding Nemo” for the thousandth time in my marine biology class in order for us to pick out the inaccuracies of the Pixar film. The film is a way to help people who don’t understand the horrors of racism, which some on the Salem State University campus may need. It’s funny, it’s welcoming, and it makes White suburbia a Black person’s nightmare (which may well be the case). Not only is the horror subversive, but it creeps up on your throughout the film, where “SAGA”; WHERE “STAR WARS” MEETS “GAME OF THRONES Image Comics, the largest indie-comic publisher, founded in revolt to Marvel and DC, is currently running one of the arguably best comic book series of all time – “Saga”. As crazy as the explanation of the plot is going to sound, “Saga” is like nothing you’ve ever read before. According to the Image Comics website, “STEVEN UNIVERSE” TEACHES US MINDFULNESS The newest episode of Steven Universe, “Mindful Education,” was truly a summation of what Steven Universe stands for as a show.
