HOW AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES ARE FUELING FOREIGN OLYMPIC Athletes from universities in the United States dominate Olympic events. That is well-known. What is not as widely realized is that American university athletic departments train those from other nations, too, who then go on to represent their home country in international competition. This was highlighted in a recent piece in Sports Illustrated, “Off and Running”, TIPS YOU NEED TO GET YOUR NCAA COMPLIANCE CAREER STARTEDNCAA COMPLIANCE DIVISION 2NCAA COMPLIANCE JOBSNCAA COMPLIANCE MANUALNCAACOMPLIANCE RULES
While your first year working in compliance can be difficult, if you are able to find a mentor, keep on top of the changing NCAA compliance and college athletics environment, and find work-life balance, you will find that working in the field can be very rewarding. THE CONUNDRUM OF BASKETBALL'S GUARANTEE GAMES At the initial blush, the idea of playing a large number of guarantee games in the range of $75,000 to $100,000, seems like a good idea. You generate significant short-term revenue which helps support the entire athletic department. WILL COLLEGE ATHLETES HAVE TO START PAYING INCOME TAX ONCOLLEGE ATHLETE STIPEND AMOUNTSCOLLEGE ATHLETICS STIPENDS BY SCHOOLBENEDICTINE COLLEGE FOOTBALLCOLLEGE STIPEND PROGRAMSCOLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE TAXABLEREPORTING TAXABLE SCHOLARSHIP INCOME Traditionally, College Athletes have been exempt from paying Federal Income Tax on their athletic scholarships. In 1977, the IRS issued an internal ruling that it would not tax scholarships as gross income where (1) the university expects but does not require the student to participate in a particular sport; (2) the university requires no particular activity in lieu of participation; and (3 ADIDAS SPENDING BIG ON COLLEGE CONTRACTS The Maryland based apparel innovator signed long time adidas school Notre Dame away for what has been reported to be a $90 million dollar deal. Trouble doesn’t seem to be over for adidas either. This week the Michigan athletic department sent out a survey to students asking which brand would they most want to wear.
