DON'T SMOKE? YOU COULD STILL GET ORAL CANCER A lot of times, people don't realize they have oral cancer. They may think they have a bit of a cold and that's why they're hoarse, or they bit their tongue and it's just taking a long time to heal. BIT LIP? SPLIT LIP? HOW TO TREAT MOUTH INJURIES IN CHILDREN Here are some tips for treating mouth injuries: Clean the area. If the split lip is from a fall, a warm, saltwater rinse will help flush out any dirt and debris. Don't use peroxide, though; kids may try to swallow it. Stop the bleeding. Apply gentle pressure to the area with a clean, damp cloth for up to 10 minutes. 10 REASONS TO USE MI PASTE Your dentist may recommend you use MI Paste to: Reduce teeth sensitivity after whitening. Reduce dental erosion caused by acids from sodas, sport drinks, alcohol and food. Reduce dental erosion caused by acids from gastric reflux. Reduce the risk for tooth decay (cavities) Prevent ugly white spots from developing around braces. HAVE CANCER? WHY YOUR DOCTOR WANTS YOU TO SEE YOUR DENTIST Many oncologists recommend cancer patients see a dentist to correct any problems with your teeth or gums before you start radiation or chemotherapy treatments. More than one-third of people treated for cancer have side effects that affect the mouth, the National Institutes of Health reports. HOW HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION COULD CAUSE SWOLLEN GUMS How High Blood Pressure Medication Could Cause Swollen Gums. If you have high blood pressure, your medical doctor may prescribe calcium channel blockers to help control it. However, that can have a side effect of sore, swollen gums that can be disturbing if you don't expect it. Calcium channel blockers can cause gingival (gum)overgrowth, said
IS IT NORMAL TO HAVE THE ROOTS OF YOUR TEETH SHOW? Normally, the teeth have adequate gum tissue to cover the roots, which should be embedded in bone. There is a small area between the bone and the gum tissue that is called the sulcus. It's in the sulcus that our bodies fight bacteria, called plaque, that collect on the teeth. In a healthy mouth, the sulcus measures between 1 and 3 millimeters.COAST DENTAL
