CMRRA UPDATE FROM PRESIDENT PAUL SHAVER Dear Clients, I wanted to communicate with you about the potential impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). At CMRRA, one of our core values is client service, and our commitment to this is paramount. We, like many of you, are closely monitoring the evolving situation. At this time, we do not currently foresee any immediate MECHANICAL LICENSING AGREEMENT The MLA is the standard agreement entered into between CMRRA and record labels doing business in Canada on an ongoing basis. It sets out the standard terms and conditions of mechanical licensing, including application for licenses, royalty rates, royalty reporting and payment requirements, reserve accounting, promotional copies, treatment of delete products and controlled composition clauses.NEED A LICENCE?
If you plan to offer products or services in Canada which contain works which you don’t own or control, you need to obtain permission to use those works. Such permission is granted through different types of licences. Refer to the descriptions below to determine which type of licence(s) you require and whether CMRRA can help. SYNCHRONIZATION LICENSING FAQ Synchronization licensing is a term derived from the “synchronization of music with visual or other elements.” The inclusion of a copyrighted musical work in a film, television program or commercial requires the publisher’s permission, and this is granted in the form of a synchronization license. UNDERSTANDING YOUR MLA LICENCES The Rate Type relates the royalty rate at which the licence was issued pursuant to the terms of the Mechanical Licensing Agreement. (CSI) CMRRA-SODRAC Inc. (CSI) is a joint venture of the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency Ltd. (CMRRA) and the Society for Reproduction Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers in Canada (SODRAC).
