HOME | CLASSICS WORLD BEST MODERN CLASSIC SUVs. Matt Bell on 27th May 2021. Like it or not, the explosion of SUVs in the 90s and early 2000s was an important part of automotive history – and now the key players are approaching modern classic status. Here are our favourites. BROMLEY PAGEANT OF MOTORING 2021 CANCELLED BROMLEY PAGEANT OF MOTORING 2021 CANCELLED. Posted by Matt Bell on 2nd March 2021. Following the recent announcement from the government with regards to Covid-19, A-ME Event Management, organisers of the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 event. BMW Z3 BUYING GUIDE

The UK-market Z3 was powered by BMW’s new M44 1.9-litre 16-valve engine giving 140 bhp, this being a revised version of the 16-valve 1.8-litre M42 twin cam that had been fitted to 318iS cars since 1989. Europe had the base model 1.8 single cam model. A five speed Getrag gearbox from the 318iS with a snappy new short shift lever or a four RANGE ROVER CLASSIC VS LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 1 Welcome to Old School vs New School where we visit the controversial subject of traditional classics compared to their more youthful equivalents. This time, the Range Rover Classic vs Land Rover Discovery 1 Just as today’s paper is tomorrow’s chip wrappers, so each modern classic will eventually take its accepted place in the line-up of cherished classics at a car show of the future and FORD CVH ENGINE: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW The Ford Sierra isn’t the first Ford which springs to mind when the CVH engine is being discussed but the car was in fact the recipient of the largest-capacity CVH to be offered in Europe. The mainstream engine for the Sierra at launch was the overhead-cam four-cylinder Pinto which was offered in 1.3, 1.6 and 2-litre guises.

FORD V8 PILOT

Ford V8 Pilot 1947-51. Though it was produced exclusively post-war, and a model intended to get Ford back into business quickly, the Pilot was to all intents and purposes a continuation of what Ford had been doing in the years coming up to 1939, and contained few if any ‘new’ components. The sidevalve 85bhp V8 engine was a big torquey

ROAD TEST - 1996 JAGUAR XJS 4.0 AUTO - CLASSICS WORLD Classics World’s Chris Stacey test drives and reviews the 1996 Jaguar XJS 4.0 Auto Celebration. The E-Type was always going to be a very tough act to follow and Jaguar chose to replace the icon with a grand tourer rather than another sports car. Wise move some might say, but when the XJS was launched in 1975, the press saw it as something ROAD TEST - 1978 MGB ROADSTER Excluding a few inches of black rubber front and back, it is still very much an MGB. Our test car today is a 1978 model in glowing BL Flame Red paint and is currently for sale at Norfolk-based specialist dealer and restorer MG Mecca. Proprietor Russell Storer is more than a marque specialist, he’s a true MG enthusiast and extremely

knowledgeable.

CLASSIC ROAD TEST: ALFA ROMEO GTV REVIEW Back in the mid ’90s this was Alfa’s riposte to the BMW coupe. How does the Alfa Romeo GTV stack up 20 years on and should you buy one? “Still want that 3-Series?” asked the front cover of Autocar on March 27, 1996 above an action photo of the Alfa GTV. WHY SHOULD YOU BUY A JAGUAR XK8/XKR? ON THE ROAD. Over the years, XK8/XKR auto gearboxes have proved to be reasonably reliable, more so the Mercedes-Benz-derived five-speed ‘boxes fitted to the supercharged and 4.2-litre cars. These ‘boxes have gained a reputation for generally being bulletproof and changes should take place with an appreciable smoothness. HOME | CLASSICS WORLD BEST MODERN CLASSIC SUVs. MODERN ASTON MARTINS: MARKET TRENDS Aston Martin Vanquish (2001-2007) Finally, a new Aston Martin for James Bond. As featured in the 2002 film Die Another Day, the Vanquish was the confirmation of a return to form for Aston Martin. Under Ford ownership, the new car featured a V12, reasonably clever tech, and looks to die for. They were never cheap, starting with a lofty

The obvious advantage of buying a modern-classic Bentley rather than an older example is its relative lack of rust issues, although this doesn’t mean the Arnage is guaranteed to be corrosion-free. After all, the oldest cars are now 22 years old, and not all of them will have been cherished in more recent

The MGB was a classic, sleek two-seat open top or 2+2 hardtop GT at the leading edge of 1960s sports car design, a description that was still true when it passed out of production in 1980! ROAD TEST - MG TF

Classics World’s Rob Hawkins test drives and reviews the MG TF The values of used MG TFs are seemingly increasing, whereas the earlier Hydragas-sprung MGF has yet to catch up. The BMW Z3 was the Bavarian outfit’s contribution to the back-to-basics roadster revolution of the late ’90s. Now it makes an appealing step up from the ubiquitous Mazda.
