PDC DELIVERS HUGELY OPTIMISTIC HAMMERS PREDICTION Posted by Hugh5outhon1895on August 15,
2019
in News , Whispers
Paolo Di Canio reckons we are on our way to Europe after delivering a hugely positive view of the Hammers squad this season. He believes that we are ahead of the likes of Wolves and Leicester City in terms of quality and claims we have the best outside the topsix.
PDC of course bleeds claret and blue and there is probably more than a bit of optimism attached to his comments which appear on the _club’s official website_,
where he makes it clear we should be aiming for a Europa League spotthis season.
And the truth probably is that nothing less will do for the board at this stage of proceedings with their most highly paid manager and backroom team ever entering their second season. A move up to say eighth place would hardly be acceptable given the money spent because the investment is aimed at the next level, defined by most as European football. PDC declared: “With more consistency during the season, we can have a fantastic season because, after the top six, I think West Ham is the team with the best quality and talent. “And when you have Pellegrini in his second year, he knows exactly the environment here and he is happy with the squad because he has said that he has got two players for each position. “So, we have all the things to do well. And I hope we can go back into Europe next year and qualify for the Europa League.Permalink

SO MANY OPTIONS AS PELLE CONSIDERS BRIGHTON SQUAD Posted by Hugh5outhon1895on August 15,
2019
in News
SNODDY EARNING A RIGHT TO START With only Mark Noble injured, Manuel Pellegrini faces various questions as he muses his selection options for Brighton and HoveAlbion.
The first of course is the perennial left back issue and whether he sticks with a clearly out of form Aaron Cresswell or recalls Arthur Masuaku following the defender signing a new long term deal. I reckon he will plump to leave Cress on the bench and add to his numerous attacking options by calling up the DR Congo international. There is a big question on the other side of the pitch after Ryan Fredericks produced a performance which got plenty of criticism and that may bring Zaba and young Ben Johnson into the equation. FORNALS COULD GET THE CALL In the middle of the park Snoddy was an impressive high energy performer when he arrived as a 56th minute sub for Wilshere and the boss will presumably be keen to include Fornals. Frankly, I was impressed with Yarmolenko as pre-season drew to a close and would expect to see him on the bench at least for the trip south. A couple of changes or so may be required but I see no reason for a vast over-reaction following the City defeat and this would be my teamand bench;
FABIANSKI; FREDERICKS, DIOP, BALBUENA, MASUAKU; RICE, SNODGRASS, FORNALS, ANDERSON, LANZINI, HALLER. BENCH: ROBERTO, JOHNSON, OGBONNA, YARMOLENKO, ANTONIO, WILSHERE, AJETI. I get that this excludes Antonio but genuinely believe that Snoddy is worth a chance and the decision adds a free kick and corner specialistto the team.

ALBION V IRONS – EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW Posted by Hugh5outhon1895on August 15,
2019
in News , Whispers
BY NEW BLOGGER JAMES H The Hammers have an immediate chance to rectify that poor start against Brighton at the Amex Stadium against confident Brighton & HoveAlbion on Saturday.
Albion pulled the trigger on the Chris Houghton regime over the summer and ushered in a new era with the arrival of Graham Potter.
The former Swansea and Ostersund coach has been renowned for his style of play, and that produced immediate benefits on the opening day. HALLER – LOOKING FOR A FIRST GOAL Brighton ran out 3-0 winners over Watford with a wonderful display. An Abdoulaye Doucoure own goal set them on their way, before second-half strikes from Florin Andone and debut boy Neal Maupay. The Seagulls have strengthened smartly over the summer with the arrivals of Maupay, Leandro Trossard and Adam Webster, but the Hammers should be confident that they can get all three points at the Amex. HAMMERS RECENT RECORD AGAINST BRIGHTON Both sides have been evenly matched when they have come up against each other each having won on 18 occasions; while there have been 15 draws. However, the Premier League era has seen a dominant period for the Seagulls. Brighton are unbeaten in the four top-flight fixturesbetween the pair.
The only occasion that the Hammers have come away with a point came in last season’s 2-2 draw at the London Stadium. In fact, West Ham haven’t won away at Brighton in any of their top-flight meetings – something for which all our fingers will be crossed this weekend.WEST HAM TEAM NEWS
Mark Noble will be missing again for the Hammers as he recovers from a leg injury picked up in pre-season. Meanwhile, Felipe Anderson is a slight concern but should be fit.BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS
The Seagulls will be without Yves Bissmouma and Jose Izquierdo who both picked up injuries during pre-season. BRIGHTON VS WEST HAM PREDICTION The defeat at the hands of Manchester City can be quickly eradicated from memory when the Hammers win at the Amex. The recent record
isn’t the best from a West Ham point of view, but these records have to be broken at some point, and a Sebastian Haller goal in a comfortable win for the travelling side would be the perfect afternoon on the coast for West Ham. While it may appear to be disappointing result against the current champions to start the season , there was more than enough positives for Manuel Pellegrini and his side to build on. Sebastian Haller looked a handful for the City defenders throughout the game, and a first goal for the big striker only seems a matter of time. Meanwhile, Pablo Fornalsgot
some valuable minutes under his belt, and he showed glimpses of the influential player he could be for the Hammers. Fornals looked to bounce off Haller at any given opportunity, and while it didn’t reap the rewards against Pep Guardiola’s side, that doesn’t mean it won’t work against teams that the Hammers are expected to beat this season. City are the best team in the country, and West Ham held their own for 45 minutes and put for a fortunate ricochet of Gabriel Jesus the Hammers would have gone into the break level. The second half was a completely different story as the Citizens pressed home their dominance, and while VAR may have played a part in Sergio Aguero’s penalty, the remainder of the goals West Ham could do little about. Early season form has been a problem for City in each of the last four seasons, with the club unable to win a single opening match. However, Brighton is a different proposition. Pellegrini would have also been pleased with the fitness of Jack Wilshere. The midfielder has endured his share of well-documented setbacks, but there is a sense that this season could be the one where he finally reaches a consistent level of performance. Hammers fans will be hoping so because a holding midfield pairing of Wilshere and Declan Rice is a solid foundation to allow the attacking players to do what they do best. There is still hope that the Hammers can achieve something this season, and we can’t be too disappointed by a heavy defeat against the team that are likely to win the Premier League again at a canter.Permalink

ADRIAN BECOMES A LIVERPOOL SUPER CUP HERO Posted by Hugh5outhon1895on August 14,
2019
in News , Whispers
Adrian’s move to Liverpool is currently paying off in spades with the former Hammers keeper becoming the hero of the night as Liverpool won the Uefa Super Cup via a penalty shoot out save. With the game 2-2 at the end of extra time and the penalty shoot-out level at 4-4 Adrian saved Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham’s effort to ensure the scousers grabbed their fourth Super Cup victory. Not exactly a replay of the famous night when he saved from Steven Naismith before scoring for the Irons in an FA Cup third-round replay penalty shootout against Everton in 2015. But a blinding night for the Spaniard regardless who was involved tonight as a result of Allisson’s absence due to a calf injury sustained against Norwich City. An ecstatic Adrian was joined by overjoyed team mates and manager Jurgen Klopp with Reds skipper Jordan Henderson saying: _“I’m delighted for Adrian . He’s just joined the club and is a herotonight.”_
For another former Hammer, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, it was a third Super Cup loss as a player and manager at Chelsea. You have to be delighted for Adrian who conducted himself with great dignity at the Hammers after being dislodged from the No 1 goalkeeping spot first by Darren Randolph, then Joe Hart and finally LukaszFabianski.

PELLEGRINI GIVES BLESSING TO WILSHERE ARRANGEMENT Posted by Hugh5outhon1895on August 14,

Jack Wilshere is bringing his former Arsenal physio Declan Lynch over from Ireland to keep him improve his fitness. The Irish physio struck up a special bond with both Wilshere and Theo Walcott, with whom he spent a lot of time during the duo’s injury problems at Arsenal. Wilshere is now reported to be paying for Lynch to treat him privately and the arrangement has the blessing of Manuel Pellegrini The _Daily Mail_ reports: “Wilshere clearly feels the sessions with Lynch, held away from the training ground, are paying dividends,” “Following his departure from the West country , Lynch set up a clinic in Limerick in the Republic of Ireland and kept in touch with Wilshere.” Since leaving Arsenal last summer, Jack has played just 445 minutes for West Ham across nine games. Fifty six of those minutes came in West Ham’s first game of the season against Man City which they lost 5-0.Permalink

West Ham fans have overwhelmingly turned away from the written press as a means of discovering news about their club. _ClaretandHugh_ yesterday launched a survey to discover in the rapidly changing world of communications how and where the fans went for their information on things Hammers. And it’s the dedicated West Ham internet sites followed by social media that are now leading the way as newspapers circulations continueto fall.
Whilst the sites such as FOOTBALL: LONDON, KUMB and CANDH collected 931 votes of the near 2,000 votes cast (54.48 per cent) the printed media and their associated websites drew a mere 19 (1.1 per cent) Social media – where well informed ITKs such as @EXWHUEMPLOYEE break their ‘scoops’ saw 365 votes collected or 21.36 per cent of the total poll – a fine achievement. POLL: HOW MANY POINTS WILL WEST HAM EARN IN AUGUST? Posted by Sean Whetstoneon August 14,

in News
The Hammers have three more games in August when they face Brighton Away, Watford Away then Norwich City at Home. West Ham have not scored a point in August since 2016! That season the Hammers lost to Chelsea 2-1 on an opening day before winning the only August win at the London Stadium with Michail Antonio the scorer in a narrow 1-0 win against AFC Bournemouth on 21st August 2016. Next came another 3-1 loss against Man City away on 28th August2016.
There was no joy at the start of the 2017/2018 season either with 4-0 loss against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 13th August 2017 followed by a 3-2 loss against Southampton on 19th August the same year then a 3-0 away loss against Newcastle on 26th August the sameseason.
Last season was no better with a 4-0 loss against Liverpool at Anfield on 12th August then 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on 18th August at the London Stadium followed by a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates on 25th August 2018. LONDON STADIUM WI FI A BIG STEP CLOSER Posted by Sean Whetstoneon August 14,
2019
in News , Whispers
EXCLUSIVE BY SEAN WHETSTONE London Stadium wide ‘High-density Wi-Fi’ took a massive step closer after a contract with mobile company O2 was signed by stadium owners E20 last week. O2 has already started installing the equipment this week and hopes to be finished by the end August telecoms industry insiders have told Claret and Hugh by phone today. Internal testing of the new Wi-Fi service should begin September with free Wi-Fi scheduled to be made available to all stadium users this season on a date to be agreed and announced by the stadium owners. O2 have rolled out the same Wi-Fi technology across Manchester City’s Etihad stadium, Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu, Twickenham rugby stadium and the London Eye. O2 has re-used much of the infrastructure left in the ground from the London 2012 Olympics as well as the existing fibre network but has installed a new mesh of Wi-Fi access points to allow a crowd of up to 60,000 to enjoy fast download speeds of up to 30Mb/s. Claret and Hugh understand that the multi-million O2 contract does not include any sponsorship so the London Stadium will not be renamed the O2 Stadium or the London Stadium powered by O2. However, stadium owners may be looking for other sponsors to help absorb the cost of installing and the ongoing upkeep of the Wi-Figoing forward.

PREVIOUS TRANSFER TARGET COULD STILL HAVE LAST LAUGH Posted by Sean Whetstoneon August 14,
2019
in News , Whispers
Wilfred Bony could have the last laugh at West Ham’s expense! The previous Hammers transfer target now 30 who previously played for Swansea City, Manchester City and Stoke City is now training with Newport County as a free agent and could yet sign for the Welsh outfit before the Hammers Carabo Cup draw at the end of the month. West Ham chairman David Sullivan once told Jason Burt of the Telegraph that he regretted not signing Bony for an £8m transfer fee when the then manager Sam Allardyce insisted on signing Andy Carroll instead. _“I would have bought Wilfried Bony for £8million and 40 grand a week,”_ Sullivan told the Telegraph at the time. _“Swansea paid 12m. I had him bought for £8m.”_ West Ham ended up paying £17m for Andy Carroll paying him £85,000per week.
Bony was later famously signed by Manuel Pellegrini at Man City for 29m before later re-signing for Swansea for a knockdown £11.70m in2017.
During his time at Manchester City West Ham tried to sign him on loan but he never happened for whatever reason.Permalink

HAMMERS HAS HISTORY WITH NEWPORT Posted by Sean Whetstoneon August 14,

in
News , Whispers
West Ham will make a 360 miles round trip to Wales to face Newport County in the Carabao Cup on a mid-week game in late August. West Ham were drawn in the southern pool which is supposed to reduce travel for away supporters but it won’t feel like that for manyHammers fans.
The Hammers have played Newport County a total of three times in their combined history, winning one, drawing one and losing one. The win and the draw came in 1947 in the old Division two while the most recent game resulted in an away loss in the third round FA Cup when John Lyall’s team came unstuck 2-1 at Newport stadium with Byran Robson the only West Ham scorer. Last year Newport held Spurs to a 1-1 draw in the fourth round of the FA Cup showing the Welsh team can still mix it with the big boys and this game will not be an easy pushover for Manuel Pellegrini and histeam.
The away allocation is likely to be around 1,000 although they did offer Spurs a ticket allocation of 1,660 last year after installing an extra 600 temporary seats.Permalink
